I interpret this as owners of fixed weeks do not have the right to rent them out if such activity is considered a "commercial purpose" at Hyatt's discretion. I know that in practice you can rent your unit as much as you want, but it's the legal standpoint that worries me, not how it's done in practice.

This is a surprise to me. I thought if you can do anything with your owned deeded week, including renting it out for profit as a commercial activity. I thought restrictions may only apply if you use points to exchange within the Hyatt network, and then rent out an exchange.

But no! Legally, you cannot engage in a "commercial activity" with your owned unit.

Thoughts?

We have been with Hyatt for over 20 yrs. Own at Key west, and Sedona. We have rented Key west many times, stayed at but never rented Sedona. I' pretty sure the same language exists for key west. We have never had a problem renting. I suppose that in the declaration the exception in XIV as noted would be the caveat used in renting.
As with me.......who's to say who is family, guest, as long as my MF's, and dues are paid........:ponder:

I read it as you can rent it out as long as you don't own/run a timeshare rental business. Which to me is what they mean by commercial

No, Article XIV is the Rights of Developer.

I understand that there are no problems renting currently, and likely will be no problems in the future, especially if it's just one week annually. But legally, Hyatt can crack down on renting if they consider it for "commercial purposes". It is concerning. I though if I have a deed I can do with my unit whatever I want, including renting for "commercial purposes".
