I received an OGS match for late Summer 2020 at a European resort via the HGVC portal. 1.5 years is a long time and a lot can change. Is there a way to cancel or change the reservation without losing my $236 reservation fee and possibly losing HGVC points if my plans change?

I know that the upgrades feature enables some wiggle room if different resorts come available, but what if we decide to stay in the states and want to move the reservation to an entirely new location during the same week - possible? Does RCI have anything that is like ePlus in II?

Any tips or tricks or workarounds such as the Marriott puck rule would be most appreciated.

You dont lose the reservation fee if you cancel, it becomes a credit to use for another exchange.

I believe the HGVC points you used stay in RCI as points available there, they won’t return to your HGVC balance.

I didn't know that your exchange fee became a credit in your account. Is this a feature of the HGVC portal? In my weeks account when I canceled an exchange, my exchange fee was gone forever, and some of my TPU's were not refunded.

As far as I know you have a 24 hour grace period after a match to cancel and get everything back. After that if you cancel you lose the exchange fee and you get a % of the points back based on the date of travel and how much time is left when you cancel. You can purchase points protection which allows you to cancel up until the day of the exchange and get all your points back (the remain in RCI) but your exchange fee is still forfeited.

You are right, I was thinking of canceling the OGS, you get a credit.

Bummer. I was hoping that it was a quirky HGVC thing. No such luck, they get you coming and going.
