RCI confirmed an ongoing search at a resort I had exchanged into in September of 2015. The reservation is for July of 2019.

I have yet to confirm the hold. Am I going to be able to confirm the hold or do you think that there system just holds a unit within my search parameters and not excluding resorts I can't book into. Or is the 1 in 4 rule apply to the year in which it was booked. If so, then it has been four years as I was there in 2015.

If I confirm could they come back later and cancel my reservation?

Any insight would be helpful. I have until tomorrow to confirm.

Different resorts deal with that in different ways.

Attitash Mountain Village in NH has a 1:4 rule. RCI blocks any confirmations within 4 years for exchanges, though Last Calls and Extra Vacations have no block. It is stated on the "resort info" page that only exchanges are affected.

Smugglers' Notch in VT also has a 1:4 rule for certain weeks. RCI does NOT block confirmations here. We were here on an exchange August 2017, and are confirmed back for July 2020 (within the weeks that should be blocked.) So far, so good.

Might be worth a phone call to the resort to see what their official policy is.

OK Thanks, what about getting a guest certificate if RCI allowes me to confirm it?
The guest certificate is totally separate from the 1:4. You should be fine, if the 1:4 goes through.

If I were violating the 1-in-4 restriction (which is calculated to the day for RCI properties I actually know about), I would assume the resort could cancel it on me, even if for some reason RCI let me confirm it. I would not do this for something other than "It would be nice if we could do this" trips.

Even after being confirmed, it can be cancelled at any time anyone determines it is a violation. That is steadfast policy that goes back 20 years for me/us, firsthand.

Came back to add that each resort works up their "Incoming" their own way, so that gives them the opportunity to catch violations right up until check-in.

As for the mention of "Guest Certificate", let's say you determine that it would be best to not tempt fate. If you still want to go, and let's say you knew other RCI members, have one of them book it for you with a Guest Certificate.

OP, are you sure the 1 in 4 is still in effect? I know with the Vidanta Group in the past they were constantly changing the parameters. What resort is it and does it still say on the RCI page it is a 1 in 4.
