I can’t think of a way to rank this for a poll, but I would love to know people’s favorites.

My favorites are (in order):

1) Marriott MOC fixed weeks
2) HGVC point system
3) Marriott float weeks
4) StarOptions point system
5) Worldmark
6) Marriott point system
7) Disney

Of course, I love them all because they work well together, but if I had to sell, I would start at bottom and work up.

Best,

Greg

But... Disney is the most magical (and happiest) place on earth!
OTOH, I will have made 6x trips to WDW in 12 mo. (b4 our passes run out), so I understand.

1. HGVC - most flexibility, treated fairly as a resale owner. MF kind of high.
2. Quarter House - gets us wherever we need to go, trades everywhere, MF are reasonable
3. Coronado Beach and Seapointe - (Grand Pacific) - we use the day use on these properties frequently, especially Coronado. MF on the high side but not has bad as others we have owned in the past. Trades well in either RCI, SFX, or GPX.
4. SDO - same as QH, but with higher MF, although we get discounted trades with preference in II. We do not have SO.

We used to own Marriott too but between the high MF and the ease that they could be sold, we got out last year. We may get back in at some point, but so far we don't need the preference. I still have two more Marriott weeks to trade.

Just closed on Vistana and 81,000 SOs a few months ago. My first time with an II resort as well. Just booked an AC to Cabo San Lucas.

2 Grand Pacific. Sea pointe is my hybrid with HGVC points and Carlsbad Inn rents every summer.

VRI is Gaslamp. Rent it out every year for Comic Con. It’s supposedly pulls great TPUs in RCI but I would rather have the Benjamins.

We own HGVC (Flamingo x2, W. 57th) and DVC (Beach Club and Boardwalk).

Both are very flexible and points-based- nothing fixed. DVC has fewer fees (reservation, guests, banking are all no fee). HGVC has access to a bunch of locations.

Really enjoy both.

Cheers.

Yes, that would be nice. I would also like to know the yearly MFs are for everyone too (sorry off-topic to the OP). I like the thread in the Marriott forum on this. I know that I could add another Question to the list but it is basically X (average price) times # of weeks.

I can’t think of a way to rank this for a poll, but I would love to know people’s favorites.

Hmm.. Favorite?

I bought each of my timeshares for a primary reason
  • HGVC (x2) mainly for the Hilton Hawaiian Village (HHV)
  • Vistana (x2) mainly for Maui and Atlantis using StarOptions
  • Disney mainly for Disney World stays but cutback to just 50 DVC points
  • WorldMark for RCI & II trades with the various hotel based systems (HGVC, DVC, Marriott, Four Seasons and Hyatt)
At one time, I would have said without hesitation that HHV was my #1 favorite. We still enjoy going to Hawaii. We'll be in Maui in late September. But if you ask me what am I looking forward to, I would have to say going back to Marriott's oceanfront destination resorts (in Myrtle Beach, Oahu and Aruba) as well as exploring other Marriott destination resorts. So far, knock on wood, we've experienced consistent quality at the Marriott resorts.

Hmm...How would I rank them?

  • I prefer to stay at sprawling destination timeshare resorts however I don’t like overcrowded resorts.
  • I prefer timeshare systems that are points based systems offering online access to all inventory on a level playing field (I don't like what Marriott has done).
  • I like that all of my timeshares are point based although they might have different names (Vistana has StarOptions and WorldMark has credits).
  • I like that all of my timeshares offer some flavor of banking and borrowing which gives me greater flexibility.
  • I like that my Vistana and HGVC resale ownership include a corporate membership in Interval International and RCI.
  • And I also like that WorldMark offers a discount exchange rate for Flex exchanges with II and RCI.
  • My love for Disney has somewhat faded due to the escalating costs for extended family vacations (ticket prices, events/shows, food, etc) so I've cut back.

It’s hard to rank them because they all serve me well. I guess I'll rank them based on if I had to sell from the bottom up.

(1) HGVC Lagoon Tower two bedroom oceanfront Gold - EOY (most valuable from a home week rental perspective based on MF)
(2) Vistana EOY
(3) WorldMark
(4) DVC
(5) HGVC Annual
(6) Vistana Annual

I also own a variety of things because they offer unique benefits.

HGVC - West 57th Street - Our favorite (and most expensive) because we love NYC
Vacation Internationale - Our first purchase back in 1988 - Our Prestige Platinum status gets some pretty amazing perks. Lots of Western US/Canada properties
Worldmark - Drive to/Park City/Bonus time and Monday Madness
Shell - San Francisco (we live in Sacramento), Napa and San Diego
Vistana - Avon, CO - for skiing - probably least favorite as it's an EOY and MF are high
Sedona Pines/Oakmont Resort (Pigeon Forge, TN) - for RCI points w low MF - mostly use for ski vacations

I am always reading about people buying and selling their timeshares to adjust their portfolio. All I've ever done is buy. We use 100% of everything along with bonus time and similar. A bit of buyers remorse on the Vistana (Sheraton Mountain Vista) buy just due to the ongoing cost. It's a nice property.

I’ve adjusted my portfolio over the years as my vacation needs have changed.
Sold HGVC SeaWorld, Four Season Residence Club and various DVC points.

DH accepts the new additions as long as I do a swap by selling an old one :D

Love the responses from multiple TS owners on ranking. Provides great perspective on the brands.

Would love to see the favorites question in each of the branded TS forums (Marriott, Vistana, Hyatt) because we might be slightly biased in the Hilton Forum toward HGVC (i.e. what we know). However those forums might offer a different perspective (may be biased toward their base brand) but if they own HGVC as well it would be valuable insight.

From a favorites standpoint, I would rank DVC a bit above HGVC in that they don't have the various and sundry nickel-and-dime fees that HGVC have. Once dues are paid, most things are gratis.

But, beyond that comparison, I can't rank them because they're so different. HGVC won't very likely get me onto the Boardwalk at Disney World whenever I want to go, and DVC are less likely to get me to New York.

Cheers.

Actually DVC has access to weeks inventory in nyc for hgvc. A few months ago all Saturdays(might have been a Friday) through the year was deposited in RCI select. One can always debate if 130 DVC points are worth the trade.

Thanks. Did not know that. We don't do weeks, so this would not work. But 130 DVC points is about $700 in MFs, so this is a great deal for a week in NYC.

Cheers.

Well kinda. You could rent those 130 points for $17 that’s $2,210. With that you could rent from an owner and get exactly what you want.

That us true. We've never rented DVC points as we use all of them, but we could certainly get that price (or even just $13 through an intermediary with no work on our part). Of course, to rent the New York HGVC property we would "theoretically" need to rent a week since Club Reservation rental (which would be needed for less than a week) are against the rules :)

Cheers.
