Pilots Reveal the Worst Airports They Hate the Most
By Joe McGauley/ Travel/ Thrillist/ thrillist.com

"Lots of lists and rankings exist to rate airports from a passenger's perspective, from ranking them based on price and design, to the likelihood that you'll be stuck with a delay, to assigning them overall satisfaction ratings. But what do the pilots think? They're jetting in and out of airports far more frequently than the average traveler, and thus uniquely suited to judge them.

Fortunately, a recent Reddit post provided some fascinating insight, when several pilots responded to the question: What is your least favorite airport? The candid feedback revealed quite a bit about a number of popular and lesser known airports around the world, and confirmed a few suspicions about what many consider to be the worst airport in America.

All three airports in NY Metropolitan area. I have to use them since Stewart International Airport- which is only a half hour from my home- does not have non stop flights except to Ireland and Scotland and Norway as of recent. Not to mention the airfares are not competitive.

So no good choices for the millions of people who live here and the surrounding areas.

With any airport, difficulty rises with one´s lack of experience or recent experience at any given location. Some of my least favorite locations:

DCA, MEX, SJO.

One of the most difficult airports in North/Central/South America is undoubtedly TGU, Tegucigalpa.

Oh, come on now. Teguch is not that bad.... o_O They finally trimmed the trees and shrubs on the approach end. Too bad the mountains can't be trimmed too....

St Maarten's airport is quite an experience! You come in to land right over a beach bar, coming in so low you can almost read the labels on the beer bottles. There are lots of cool photos on the internet showing the low Planes on landings there.

Then taking off, your full loaded plane has to taxi down the short run way and lift off fast enough to miss the small mountain just ahead. Pilots usually taxi to the far end of the run way, put on the brakes and rev the engines up, then pop the brakes to accelerate as quickly as possible. Oh, and right behind the end of the runway is a fence where people try to hang on and not get blown away by the jet blast!

One of my favorite things to do in St. Maarten is to watch the planes land. It's a thrilling experience. However, we are always careful to stand just out of the jet blast when they are taking off.
