We went to an owners update yesterday and had a low pressure but lengthly sales pitch. We are Elite Plus members and have always tried to get to Elite Premier. The cost is always prohibited since all our timeshare purchases have been purchased as resales. Some were purchased as resales through HGVC and count toward Elite levels. They also offered to take in trade the two of our resales that are NOT HGVC resales for the purchase of two Developer purchases for 40K. Points would be the same. However, we were interested in reducing our maintenance by $1000/year in the deal and the properties they were selling us didn't do that. They couldn't come up with two timeshares that would do that. They also offered a Kingsland unit for the two trade in units and 57K that would lower our maintenance by $500 and give us 2000 more points a year.
They said they would throw in up to 25000 bonus points. We said we wanted 100,000 bonus points and they refused to budge so we didn't buy. We figured that we could get about an entire year of vacation in a Studio for 100,000 bonus points.

If you had gone for the deal they offered would you have ended up with lots more points, or similar total points just elite qualified points?

Seems like your portfolio must be pretty efficient maintenance fee wise if they could not trim that down more.

100K bonus points is a lot, i would have to work hard at spending all those before they expire...

The deal they offered was an even exchange of points, but for elite qualified points. The reason that the maintenance fees would be the same is that they were taking in two efficient properties that were resales. The current elite qualified units that I own are the ones that are NOT efficient in maintenance.

We are retired so that 100K in two years would not be a big problem. We currently vacation about 4 months a year and would like to move that up to 6 or 7 months. Therefore, my thinking was that for the money I would be spending on getting Elite Premier with no additional points, that the 100K bonus points would be just compensation and accomplish our vacation desires for the next few years. We could also save our annual points and have 2 years saved up for 2020. Also, our children and grandchildren would love another high point vacation to Hawaii that would could easily afford.
