I would choose Grande Ocean, April is usually very nice on HH.

Another key question for us is. coming from a cruise (Ft Lauderdale,FL ) Ocean Pointe;
driving from Virginia Grande Ocean.
We really liked Grande Ocean & HHI better hands down.

Temps in HHI in April are likely to be in the 70's, where Riviera Beach area is likely to get you into the low 80's, so that could be a factor for you. Much more to do in HHI area without getting in your car in my opinion (assuming you like to ride bikes). What primary activities are you looking to do? Ocean, Beach, Pool, Golf, Eat, Biking, Other Outdoor Activities?

I agree with Fasttr. It depends on what you want to do and how important temperatures are.

We've been in Hilton Head the last two Aprils. In 2017, the temps were perfect for about everything - golf, beach, pool, bikes - in the low to even mid-80s all week. Great beach weather. In 2018, the weather was coolish in the 60s for all but about three or four days of a 9-night trip. After about noon, in the sun, it was warm enough most days to sit by the pool, but mornings and evenings were quite cool, especially walking on the beach a couple mornings when it was borderline cold and very windy.

If pool and beach is what you are after, then Florida would probably yield more predictable temperatures in April. I have been going to central Florida in April for a work-related event for the last 10 or 15 years, I can think of only once when the temperatures were lower than the low 80s, and that was the day after a monster cold front came through that brought tornados and storms. Within 24 hours temps were back in the 80s.

If you are looking for a more diverse vacation - bike riding, golf, great restaurants, beach/pool, boating, etc - then its hard to go wrong with Hilton Head. It is one of our favorite destinations. We've been four times this year - April for nine days, and long weekends in June, July, and October. Just if you go in April, come prepared for both warm and possibly coolish weather.

For me it would come down to preferred temps. The difference between both lows and highs is about 10 degrees on average. Low to mid 70's highs and mid 50's lows for HHI. Add 10 degrees for palm beach shores.

Me too. It is in the bottom five to me of the 30 resorts I have stayed at. Grande Ocean is in our top five.

The temperature on Singer Island is maybe 8 degrees warmer. The ocean at Ocean Pointe is nicer.
The beach at the Grand Ocean is nicer. I think the GO and OP facility are equally nice. If you are just going to relax at the pool or gong into the ocean, I would say Ocean Pointe. After this it depends on what you are looking to do. HHI has better and closer restaurants, better golf, better tennis and if you enjoy bike riding, no comparison.

When we were at Ocean Pointe, we drove to Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Boca because Singer Island does not have much. I did not mind doing this and it was a lot of fun.

We've done both for our large family summer trip and prefer GO because of location and amenities/options locally. Both were nice and well thought of by the group.

If you are going in early April and want to assure warm beach/pool weather, I recommend Ocean Pointe. I recall many spring break trips to Northern FL in my younger years where temps were only in 60's. If beach is less important and you enjoy biking and other activities, Hilton Head should be fine.

Ocean Pointe also has much nicer/better equipped fitness center. Grand Ocean's is surprisingly small and poorly equipped for such a large resort. There are several good restaurants within a 20 minute drive of Singer Island, and a Costco. Deep Sea fishing is also very good because of closeness to the Gulf Stream (1 mile offshore).

We've only been to both in August. I preferred Ocean Pointe's pools and facilities. I preferred the beach at Grande Ocean. The rooms we had at both resorts were a bit dated in terms of hard furnishings. I preferred the local area of Grande Ocean, there was little to do in the immediate (or wider) area of Ocean Pointe. Grande Ocean was a PIA for us to get to (from the UK). I had higher hopes for Grande Ocean based on the hype it receives, I don't think it's as good as it's made out to be and I think for that reason I preferred Ocean Pointe, it hadn't been bigged up in the way GO had.

If I had a choice of returning to either in April then I would probably opt for Grande Ocean. I just preferred the vibe of the area whereas I think I'm pretty much done with Florida.

If you want beach/pool weather in April, definitely choose Ocean Pointe. West Palm is much warmer than HHI then. If no beach/pool, either location and resort is great. Just different.
