NYC's New Amusement Park of Adults - Hudson Yards

Visitors to New York City have a new playground that is now part of the Manhattan skyline.

Rising above a dozen acres (five hectares) of rail yard in the West 30s Manhattan is Hudson Yards, a shiny new neighborhood and destination in New York City. Indeed, it’s been some 80 years since the city witnessed the birth of a development of this magnitude, when Rockefeller Center opened in the 1930s.

The $25 billion development, which runs from 10th to 12th Avenues and 30th to 34th Streets, was built on a $1 billion platform over the eastern end of the West Side Yard, a storage facility for the Long Island Railroad. The first phase comprises eight structures including several apartment buildings, a hotel, office buildings, a mall, and an arts center.

When the development over the western end is complete, it will have 16 buildings including 4,000 apartments, a school, parkland, and accommodate 55,000 workers at a variety of companies ranging from CNN and WarnerMedia (which are both moving from the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle) to L’Oréal, SAP, and Wells Fargo.

Thank you! This was a perfectly timed article for us. We will be visiting Manhattan for Spring break, and Hudson Yards sounds like a great place to explore.

IDK. Had the opportunity to visit recently and was underwhelmed. The circular structure out front was cool to visit and see the sunset over the Hudson.

Beyond that there was just an oversized and overpriced mall with expensive luxury items. There was not much traffic in the mall (but in fairness, it was midweek) IMHO...My sense is that many of these stores will not survive and they would have done better making it into an outlet mall or everyday mall for people who will live in adjacent housing. One can already shop many of these stores in more convenient Manhattan locations and other cities.

Perhaps there is more to come that will make it more interesting for tourists. We did not try the restaurants as we did not feel like eating a full sit down meal with a white tablecloth. So we ate at the salad bar at the upscale grocery which was unremarkable.
