Dang, sorry about that. I signed up for emails from Secret Flyer, and that is where the link came from, as well as the title of post.

I don't have another link, but I had to do a double-take on the thread title. Aren't all flights to Hawaii from the West Coast non-stop??? :D:D:D

Yes, but..................... Sometimes you have to fly to another destination to get where you are going. Meaning to get to Maui, or Kaui, or the Big Island, you might have to go through Honolulu first.

I believe I have seen other flights that go from one California City to another before flying to Hawaii. About 10 years ago we had to change twice to go from NY to Honolulu on Alaska Airlines. The first segment was from NY to Seattle, Wa, the second from Seattle, WA to Billingham, WA, the third from Billingham, WA to Honolulu. When we took the second flight we didn't go anywhere!! I don't know why Alaska Airlines did that but it turned us off from Alaska Airlines and once we found Hawaiian Airlines direct flight from JFK to Honolulu we have been using that since.

Southwest is only flying from Bay Area to HNL so to fly from SoCal we have to hop up north first.

Looks like you'll have to wait until April, 2020 to be able to fly SW out of San Diego to Hawaii.

SW is flying to Hawaii (Kona, HNL, or Lihui) from LAX. Yes, you'll have to wait to fly direct to Maui from SAN if that's your destination.

Are you sure? I can't find anything supporting this. And when I go to the SW site and put in LAX and HNL, all flights are routed through one of the northern California airports.

Nope, not sure. I just inserted 'LAX' on origin airport, and they showed a list of available destinations. As you point out, they didn't have to be direct or non stop. My bad.
