We live in Canada and have a timeshare in the US. We are now seniors on a fixed income.
What happens if we simply don't pay our fees? Are there implications to cross the border?

There would be no implications crossing the border. You might face a barrage of collection calls and letters. Where that goes can vary.

If you're worried about consequences, there are some things that might help but you need to fill in some details. Is the mortgage paid off and are the maintenance fees up to date? If so, you can ask the resort if it will take your TS back. If it is with Wyndham, Diamond, or Westgate, those companies have programs in place that might take back TSs from owners. Check out the stickies in the various Companies forums.

The one thing we here on TUG caution people like you about is to not hire any of these companies or law firms that claim they can cancel or exit you from your timeshare.
