We spent New Years at Newport and attended the sales presentation by obligation. They hadn't noted on our information that we are current weeks owners so the sales rep was surprised. He did however take through the full 90 show. When he left us to watch the video while he retrieved the finance guy, I pulled up several listings for points on ebay. None had bids but at the min bid price plus the Marriott transfer fees would be in the $5 per share range. I told the guy and he said Marriott would exercise refusal on anything less than $7-$8 per share because that is the price you can get if you buy a Marriott resale and matching points.
Is anyone on this board tracking FROR levels on points resales in the open market? I would love to hear at what level people have had success buying points. The transfer fees seem to make buying shares difficult.

After the presentation, they offered us an Encore 4 night package for 1195 which I thought a little steep. When they offered to waive fees for me to register my week for points, I went for it. Saved 2399 on registration which I have avoided for 6 years.

Was the waiver contingent on you buying points or as long as you bought the encore package you are able to e roll your week at no fee? I was unaware that you could even enroll a week at this point.

As for points on the resale market I have been studying this and they are on the low end going for $4.75 (without the $2 per point Marriott fee)...... so figure $6.75 per point or more.

I took a similar tour during the holiday week and was offered a hybrid (points and a week) which would bring the price per point down to a bit over $6 per point. It really depends on what you are looking for and wanting to accomplish.

Feel free to send a private message for more details.

Less than $4.25/pt seems to fail ROFR and $5.00 and above (almost?) always passes. In between, people have reported different and occasionally unpredictable results. Of course you have to add Marriott's $2/pt fee.

See www.ROFR.net for some information on what is passing and what is failing.

The waiver was only part of the Encore purchase. We did not add any shares. I've never felt the need to sign up for the points program as our week has traded great for the 6 years we've owned it. I wasn't interested in the Encore until he said they would waive the enrollment fee, then it seemed like a fair deal.

Yes, enrollment is still available for any week bought before June 20, 2010 and some properties are offering Encore Packages that include free enrollment. See this thread.
