I'm headed to the big island of Hawaii for New Year's and I'm wondering if anybody has any recommendations for that evening? We are a traveling with our well-behaved 9 year old and grandparents as well. Staying at Paniolo Greens, but expecting to drive to something of course.

Closest would be the resorts down the hill from you, most of them do a luau style buffet and midnight toast. Fairmont Orchid, Mauna Lani, or Waikoloa Marriott. Expect to pay $100-$250 for adults and half price for kids. The Marriott is the cheapest.

Looks like Hilton Waikoloa Village also has a New Year's Eve event.

Here is information from 2016/2017. They say they update their page in December and that most of the hotels hosts similar events each year. If any of them sound appealing I'm sure you could get more information from the resorts/hotels.

We were there last year for NYE - The town of Kona has fireworks near the pier. Or most hotels have events. Last year, the hilton did not have an event, but the Mariott in Waikoloa did so check around.

Thanks for the tips! I was kind of hoping there was a hidden gem of a NYE evening out that someone had found, but it sounds like the big hotels are where it's at. I might try Lava Lava and just roll the dice.
