Since this is an event, I'd recommend one of the old line Creole restaurants -- Antoine's, Galatoire's, Broussard's, Arnaud's -- although I certainly couldn't argue about Commander's Palace. The jazz brunch at Court of Two Sisters is different and quite nice. K-Paul's, if you want to go to the place that started the blackened redfish craze.

Check on-line menus but understand that many menus change daily. Still, you'll get an idea of what to expect. Check for dress requirements. Some require a jacket.

Where will you be staying?

Edit: Here's a list of restaurants that Quarter House has on the reception desk. Not all are "event" places but you can eat well at any of them. Most anyone who has been to N.O. has a favorite that is not on the list. (We went four times in one week to Mr. Ed's, which is not on the list. We have dined many times at Oceana Grill but never made it there on the last trip.)

Try lunch at Antoine's. Normally no Reservation needed. Fixed Price Lunch Menu with 25 cent cocktail. The day we were there it was a Screwdriver. You can have up to 3 cocktails.

If you want the Commander's Palace you had better be making your Reservation now.

Also Redfish at 115 Bourbon Street. The BBQ Oysters are wonderful. Patti who normally does not like Oysters can eat a dozen or more. Have the Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert. Patti and I normally share 1. Never had a bad main course.

Edited to add the following: always order the Bread Pudding for Dessert at whatever restaurant you eat if it is on the Menu. They are all different.

I would make reservations on Valentines Day. I was on a business trip in Jacksonville FL on V-day and could not get a table until close to midnight.

I remember several years ago we were at WDW over Valentine's Day. We made Reservations for Wolf Gang Puck (¿sp?) Restaurant. When we showed up about 10 minutes early there was a huge line, mostly people without Reservations. They were told if they wanted to eat in the Cafeteria style Restaurant downstairs to put their name on the list and comeback in 2 hours. For the main restaurant upstairs they were are told to come back later in the week. We were immediately escorted upstairs.

I’m taking my sister in law to NOLA in January. What would be a good restaurant to take her too? Something unique but that does not break the bank. Thanks

Muriels's on Jackson square is nice....it's supposed to be haunted.

LOL! Is that what you do with sisters-in-law? Take them to a nice haunted restaurant?

Seriously, Muriel's is a great restaurant. Forget the haunted part -- half of the French Quarter is purported to be haunted. It sells haunted tour tickets!

I agree with the comment about GREAT FOOD EVERYWHERES in NOLA. Remember, this there is seafood and there is French-style food with sauces. And French pastries and French breads/rolls.

I would eat like I was in France ... near the coastline. And not like I was in Chicago (beef) or Philadelphia (Italian).
