We have a floating 3br 3 bath week in Orlando that we use to exchange through II, we never stay there. Looking for the flexibility of points to be able to stay 3 or 4 days twice a year or a whole week at the Galleon or Coconut Gallery in the Fl. keys during the summer (low season).
I use my week yearly for other destinations such as Hawaii, carribean etc.
I assume that the best way for me is to have a week and points, am I correct?
Any and all advice appreciated.
Thanks
1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where? Key West or Marathon Fl.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? Will stay if in Key West only.

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations? Carribean and Hawaii

4) How many people do you usually travel with? 2 max 4 adults.

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule? Anytime.

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance? Yes

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time? Yes

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars? 4

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing? Whatever needed.

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year? Whatever needed but want to keep it as low as possible.

11) Are you a detail oriented planner? My wife is!!

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do? Yes

My suggestion - for such a specific request, you should buy a timeshare on the resale market at the Galleon or Coconut Gallery.

I second Denise's suggestion. If you're that specific...then buy and stay where you want.

Also, have you considered upgrading to Platinum at Interval for ShortStays? Not the cheapest, but flexible.
Worldmark works really well with Interval for ShortStays or flexchanges with just 4000 points. Not sure if you're that flexible on the late exchanges....but there are some great deals in the last 60 days. On that point, you can get some great Caribbean trades in flexchange as well.

cheers.

Taterhed,
Thanks for your reply.
We are extreme novices and know very little of how this all works. We just pay interval every year and
Bitch and moan to them in trying to get what we want. We don't have points, we have a floating week in Orlando at Villas of Regal palms. I'm not that set on key west, we are just looking for more flexibility.
Both my wife and I can take 3 to 4 days off on short notice, and only with points as I understand it we can go somewhere for those 3 or 4 days. I believe I'm more interested in flexibility than just going to key west.
Again, thank you for your insight and help!!

If you bought a timeshare in Key West, you could use it when you wanted to, and trade it when you don't.

You can get more flexibility with points, but that doesn't mean you will be able to get Key West, or Hawaii, or the Caribbean. There are never any guarantees when you are trying to exchange, because the trades that you want may either be unavailable, or you may not have enough trading power/points.

Also - trips to Hawaii and the Cribbean are not conducive to 3-4 night stays, so I think you need to do more thinking about where you want to go for 3-4 nights.

In most cases, there is a lot more availability for 7 nights, than for 3-4 nights.

Based on another thread you posted and this thread this is a suggestion. There is a smaller timeshare resort on Marco Island called Sunrise Bay Resort and Club that has a dock for you to park your boat. It is on the bay side. Let me disclose I own there. The HOA sells resales there for a very reasonable price. I believe summer weeks will be bargains. There is an internal exchange within Sunrise. I am not sure if they would let you break your week up into two stays, you would have to ask. There is a ferry on Marco Island that goes to Keys west.
