anybody else use a cruise certificate? If so any recommendations? We were “informed” at the original presentation and the follow up encore sales presentation that we would be able to book a 7 day cruise basic inside cabin guarantee with the certificate. After activiting the cert, using the redemption company website and calling the customer service live for the certificate redemption company it appears that we only get $800 total off any cruise I book. We were never told of a value for the certificate, just we would be able to book 7 night cruise withou problems.

Thanks

The value of the certificate is highly dependent on your timing of booking the cruise. When we had one of these certificates a few years ago, we couldn’t find anything “free” when we first started looking. By the time we were finished searching, we could book a balcony cabin paying only the fees. We were very flexible, though, about where and when we could go. That probably also had an impact.

If I remember correctly, TUGGERs have had mixed results trying to use these certificates. People have been successful though.

Our experience was meh, but I blame myself for a big chunk of it. We got our cert activated and logged onto the website. Did some searching and planned to come back to it. When activated, the login showed a deadline to book much later than the 18 mos. I thought we had to use it. Time passed and we were beyond when I expected it would expire but before the deadline it showed (and which I had proof of). I couldn't log in to the website any more and got worried. Called the agent we had worked with and she said she could still activate it. Not wanting to risk things getting worse, we booked a 7 day cruise from LA to Mexico (3 stops) on Princess Cruises. Upgraded from inside cabin to balcony and ended up paying about $800 all in with taxes and fees.

Suspect we saved about $500 - $1k using the certificate, but it's really hard to know. At the end of the day, 7 day cruise for $400/person seemed like a reasonable value to us and we didn't have any good opportunities to use it otherwise.

My advice - do as much research as possible and then book as soon as you can. It's amazing how quickly time passes even when you have 18 mo. to use it!

The biggest issue I have is we were told that there was no dollar value to the certificate and the documents do not specify a dollar amount, nor does the website when researching for bookings. I fully expected to be able to book the lowest cabin on any 7 night cruise, but as we found out it is only a $800 discount towards a cruise. Now my next dilemma is trying to figure out how can I use the "discount or credit" while using a prepaid deposit on NCL.

I received a NCL cruise cert as a casino promotion. There was a listing of cruises it was good for, and inside cabin of course. I called NCL to book a western carib in October and they offered an upgrade to OV 9th deck for $1250 all in with grats for cabin, dining and drink pkg. They let me apply a $250 cruise cert.

We had friends that wanted to join later and they booked the same cabin class, it cost them $2500 so we felt it was worth it to use the cert.

We got lucky because the trip ended up between 2 hurricanes, we had perfect weather. Cuba, Belize, Costa Maya.
