Hey gang,

I currently have a 7 night, Cat 1-5 certificate that I would like to use for April 2019. I am looking at the Westin Lagunamar in Cancun. The new chart shows this resort will be category 6. I know I will need to upgrade the current certificate. Is it possible to use MR points to secure a timeshare stay prior to August 2018? If so, to what category would I need to upgrade it to?

Thanks for your replies in advance.

Mahalo,
Tom

Edit: I found it in my list under VISTA. The resort currently requires 60,000 points per night. After August 1st, it will be 50,000 points per night. You might be better off waiting till after August 1, 2018. However, if you're goal is to get the mileage with a travel package, maybe get a Category 7 or 8 package right now to hedge.

I think your best bet would be to call Owner Services to see what they can do. They are the source of truth.

Don't think a cat 7 is enough You will probably need a cat 8 package. An example is JW Marriott Los Cabos which is currently a cat 8 and goes to a cat 6 for 50,000 points.
