Morrits Tortuga Club (Cayman Islands) - II Getaway Question

I am looking at possibly purchasing a Interval Getaway for this destination. The code which comes up for the getaway is MTU (with no symbol). However when you click on the Morrits Tortuga Club link, it then shows codes MTU, MT3 (w/symbol indicating II select resort) and MLO (w/symbol indicating II premier resort).

Question, what is the difference between the 3 and if purchasing a Getaway 2br unit would I be getting the modern, refurbished units or just a run of the mill unit?

Second question is how is this resort overall, and is it appropriate/anything to do for young kids ages 8 & 10?

Thank you,

Here the thing. You just don’t know what you will get.

Morritts Grand is two oceanfront refurbished buildings.

If you can get The Londoner at Morritts Tortuga it is the newest building. Gorgeous Marriott style units. Oceanfront

Morritts Tortuga consists of a one wooden oceanfront building. Not renovated but killer views. I was there for two weeks. On one side of me in a one bedroom was a family that traded Marriott ocean point 1BR. They were VERY happy. On the other side of me was a couple there for three weeks that traded in from Mexico and they were VERY happy
Next Tortuga building is a concrete oceanfront Seaside building. I am here for 4 weeks. People very very very happy with the fabulous views.
There are 9 poolside Tortuga buildings. 6-7 have been renovated. My experience is if you trade in from II and call the management company ahead you will get a beautifully renovated unit. Same holds for getaways. RCI the bottom of the barrel unless you trade into Morritts Grand which is a separate II and RCI code.

So basically you never know.
Beautiful beach. Small resort. Large oceanfront footprint. Not crowded. Good food and drink. Many nearby restaurants.
Can’t go wrong if you are beach loving snorkeling people

Thank you.

Not certain if I want to take the risk of not getting a refurbished, modern “Marriott” type unit - as a Marriott owner that is what we are accustomed to. Also is this a family friendly resort?

It is very family friendly.
But if you need fancy, don’t come.
Please note I am a multi week long time Marriott owner as well as a multi week Westin St John owner.
I know “nice”

People come here for the fabulous location and Oceanfront situation. I am sitting in my seaside unit 40 feet from the ocean. You have seen their Facebook and Instagram pages.
But if you “need” a renovated unit the only way to guarenteed it is to trade into or rent Morritts Grand or Londoner at Morritts Tortuga.

Your welcome.
I will let you know when all units are renovated. Probably two more years.

Thanks for the info. I have a week I bought from a middleman company and was wondering what it’s like there also. Is it safe?

Like every location you visit, use common sense. But yes, it is safe. I never feel uncomfortable here. The resort is also out in the “country” 45 minutes away from the much busier and populated Georgetown and 7 Mile Beach area. There are security guards that patrol the property.

It’s very safe and the resort runs lots of games and activities. There are 3 pools in addition to the large ocean front. We come for several weeks every year and our kids and grandkids love it here! We have been owners since 1994. Although there are a few units that still have to be renovated yet, they are still clean and usable. If something is not working, they try very hard to make it right. It won’t be much longer before all units are renovated. I think you would love a stay here.

Hi Vicki!
Agree with all you say.
I am here this week with a group of 12, some are owners and the others traded in their Marriott’s andManhattan Club ownerships to get here. The run of the mill units are clean, bright but dated. We will all miss the wildly flowered sofas when they are all gone but it does not take away from the enjoyment we have every year coming here.

If you must have a renovated modern unit (I see OP was also asking about the Grand Luxxe/Jungle Bliss Resort’s in Mexico) than why be worried about it? Go where you know what you’re getting will meet your standards.

Gotta go, Bloody Marys at the Premiete Pool

Thanks so much for the info Pat. We are heading there in June with the whole family. There will be 9 of us in 3 different rooms so I'm hoping everything goes smooth. I will call ahead of time. My problem is figuring out if we want a car(s). We are taking Leon's service from the airport but we would need 2 cars to travel and only 1 person is willing to drive So trying to figure that one out

We have been to Morritts twice, both times in units that were not renovated yet. It is not stopping us from returning next January. They have a lot of pool side activities that us 2 adults enjoy. I am hoping to get a second week through RCI.

With 9 people it really would be helpful to have a car. Agree with the suggestion to rent a van. Tukka has a big van for their three restaurants. Tukka. Eagle Rays and the new Taco Cantina (old Bombay Chopsticks site). Over the edge now has a van. You can walk to italian kitchen across the street. But you will probably want to go to Rum Point and Kaibo Beach. Andy’s Car Rental has an small outpost office across the street. You could arrange to do a 3 day rental of a van and hit the out east spots/restaurants without van service on those days. Leon runs a “shuttle” to town Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday for 12.50CI R/T leave 9 return 4. To ask about room assignment call the resort management company a week ahead. They send the room assignments to the resort on Wednesday.

How do you get in touch with the Resort Management Company? Do you just call the resort and request a particular area or unit? Never been to Cayman Island so I'm trying to review all of your posts plus the Reviews on TUG for Morritt's Grand Resort. I want to gift a unit for my granddaughter's honeymoon. Any suggestions or helpful information on requesting an Ocean front-renovated room would be appreciated. Of course, I'm hoping this is possible. Thanking you in advance.

If you exchanged into the morritts Grand, both of those 2 buildings are ocean front. No need to call. All recently updated. Even the non updated units are nice.

If you exchange into Morritts Tortuga, there is a wide range of possibilities.
If you are using RCI, you will not get the new-ish Londoner ocean front building 2 or three bedrooms because they only trade they II.

So your other Oceanfront options are in non renovated, clean but fabulous view units (where I own and stay) You can Request Oceanfront but of course no guarantee. Would be easier to get May thru November as occupancy is less.
Many of the poolside units have been renovated, one and two bedrooms, and are very nice.

If I were sending honeymooners to Morritts Tortuga I think I would opt for/request a renovated poolside unit.

We haven't been to Morritts for years but when we went our Morritts Tortuga unit was the building that was located behind the Grand and Londoner. From our room deck you could see the ocean between the Grand and Ivan's. We used WM and RCI to trade for an April week.

I liked our room. Back then Dave Morritt was staying in one of the Tortuga units. We had a parking space battle for shade and Dave usually won.

Rum Point has many things for kids to do. Morritts not so much back then.

4 out of 5 buildings at the premiere pool ( where you stayed) are renovated. Nice location.
