I own a Mayan Palace (MP) Vacation Club Biannual membership. While vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, I attended a Vida Vacations (MP parent company) sales presentation. The sales rep tried to convince me that my membership (which began in 2003) is for 100 years; and unless I "upgraded" to a Vida Lifestyle membership, I would be passing on the required maintenance fees to my son and/or estate after I died.
The package I purchased was for the Right to Use every-other year for 25 years with the option of renewing for another 25 years.
We've enjoyed our MP membership, but it is our expectation that the membership will end in 2028. My understanding is the MP/Vida can't require us to renew in 25-year increments, as it is "my option." That is how the contract was explained to us. Can anyone confirm this?
Here is the language of our Biannual Agreement -
The right of use granted me is for 25 years, renewable at my option in 25 year increments up to a total, including the initial term, of 100 years. At the time of each renewal, I will pay a renewal fee equivalent to 2.5 then current maintenance fees for each registered week.
I'm assuming the "at my option" means I can opt out after 25 years. I certainly hope it does. Unless, that is, I live to be 140 years old.
