After my DH recently underwent a quadruple bypass and valve replacement, we need to find low sodium options. We've always enjoyed eating out when in Maui, but now we are limited. Has anyone else had this problem and found any good restaurants that offer low sodium heart healthy options? I'm hoping we may be able to find some places that would prepare meals without salt or seasoning.

I know I've been to restaurants on Maui that seem to offer healthy options, and some are marked to indicate that. However, I've found that most restaurants are willing to accommodate those with dietary needs. We have a neighbor who is allergic to many foods, things like onions, garlic and few other things. She will usually let the server know her restrictions and ask what the chef can do for her. I would approach it that way. They can let you know what meals can be adjusted, and which ones cannot. You could always call ahead to make sure you don't get someplace and find they can't help you out.

Hi Emmy, Thanks for the link. No, we are not there yet. When do you leave? I'm hoping we'll be able to meet up with you and Peter this trip. He is doing better. The hardest thing for him is the sodium restrictions but we're working on it. Still going to cardiac rehab 3X per week.

I will try to contact you privately and we hope to see you both.
