That's still cheaper than where we live. With USD-CAD exchange rate and metric conversion, the cost here is about $4.54 USD per US gallon.

We were Costco members a couple of times before they ever built one anyone near our home. Just the savings in Hawaii made the membership worthwhile. Now we actually have a store near us.

Costco in Hawaii has always had much cheaper gas.

My local Texas costco is OK on regular, but the big differences are on premium. Often 0.50 difference a gallon.

Oh and HI There Ed and Buddy. It has been a while......

Hi Sandy,
It has been awhile. We are just completing a 4 week stay in Maui then home on Sunday. Lots of travel in our future...maybe our paths may cross sometime. It would be fun to see you again.

We bought our Costco membership just for the gas savings in Hawaii. By the end of the week, between the savings on gas combined with the savings on grocery’s, we paid for our membership, PLUS we’ve been able to save a few more bucks on car rentals.

Just spent time on Maui and Oahu. Used Costco for gas on both. Costco on both islands was on the way between the airport and the resort (Ko Olina and Maui Ocean Club), which makes it great for filling up the car rental prior to return. Certainly cheaper!

It was $3.05 at the Lihue Costco on Kauai last week vs $3.65-3.85 elsewhere on the island. We had an SUV and were very happy with the savings!

That's fine for when you return your rental car, but are people really driving to Kahului just to get gas? That seems very counterproductive.

I wouldn't drive back just to get gas, but we often plan a stop on our way to other activities on the island, away from West Maui (e.g. Haleakala, Hana, Iao Valley, etc.). It can be worth it to go to Costco to buy more food if we're doing some morning activities in South Maui, like La Perouse, Wailea, etc.). We don't usually stay just in Ka'anapali and Lahaina the whole time.

If you don't venture far from Ka'anapali, you probably won't need gas until you leave anyhow.

We filled up at the Kahului Costco, yesterday, on our way back to Ka'anapali from Upcountry. The price was $2.99/gal.
