I have heard from someone I met at the Honolulu Museum of Art that timeshare units at the timeshare "Lifetime in Hawaii" were on sale at their office in the Royal Kuhio in Honolulu for about $1000/week for a Studio with maintenance around $600/week. Does anyone own their or heard about this offer and confirm that this is true.

I also heard that they have their own reservation system so you can book weeks back to back without having to deal with RCI. Of course, the availability of weeks when we want to go is perhaps my greatest concern.

Everything you have posted is true. Weeks availability is decent, especially if you book farther than a year in advance (by pre-paying Mf). Summer weeks are the lowest demand and are usually available on relatively late notice.

One more thought - worth noting that the association owns condos in a condo complex, and owns them leasehold. That means two things - the association doesn't really have much of a reserve fund for major items (although I think the complex is supposed to), and the land rent is significant and goes up every time they renegotiate, every ten years or so IIRC. Last renegotiation came in less than they expected, but at some point the owners of the land could try to really increase the rent, which would increase the fees over and above normal inflation increases in utilities, insurance, etc.

Anyway, I own at lifetime, and those are two things I wish I would have known before I bought. Maybe not a deal breaker, but probably good to know. The location is a good one, and they seem well managed.

We had four weeks at the Waikiki Banyan and recently gave up after 20 years our right to use these weeks. You can usually purchase very inexpensively $1000 or less and you may get the Right to Use versus owning. The HOA will want to sell any weeks not paying maintence for an extended time. They are clean, well managed, well located and we enjoyed ours. They are always a bit outdated and are not fancy at all. Parking is free. Maintenance fees are low.Less than $550 per week.
