We are with Hyatt and are thinking of trading into Northstar Lodge in September 2019. Is the town still alive at that time or does it shut down before ski season begins?

Which town? Northstar isn't actually in Tahoe - it's a ski resort about 30 min. from North Shore Lake Tahoe, located between Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Northstar has a few amenities, but you will have to drive to reach most restaurants, groceries, the lake, casinos, etc. Tahoe City is probably the closest town, or Truckee.

Tahoe never shuts down - it is a popular tourist area even with non-skiers, but it is quieter in the fall. South Shore has more activity, casinos, etc, than the North Shore.

But there is a significant village at Northstar with restaurants and shops which is right by your resort. I'm sure at least some of it will be open then. It will be a beautiful time to be in Tahoe.

We were at Northstar the second week of Oct last year.

The lift that goes up to the Ritz was only running weekend IIRC. The village shops were open, maybe a few were shut down, I can’t remember for sure. But basically you could go out to eat and shop etc, right at Northstar Village.
