The kitchen was going to be done b4 Memorial Day (start of a 2-wk vacation).
But we've been treated to a litany of excuses by the crew, all seemingly legit:
-- car break downs (2)
-- a laceration requiring stitches
-- a mental health breakdown with a hospital hold
-- a fire near the highway
-- a wife having emergency surgery & a terminal diagnosis
-- death of one's mother.
These guys should have their own reality TV show.

At least the floor & counter-top are now scheduled...
"We'll be done in two weeks." ...Yeah, right.

I wonder how many times his mother has died in the middle of a job? Or how many times he has checked himself into a Mental Unit in the middle of a job.

I'm sorry to laugh at your expense, Talent, but the collective list of excuses cracks me up. Thanks for sharing.

At what point do you think the contractor will realize that too many excuses are ruining his credibility? And was the mental breakdown with hospital hold the contractor's or yours from hearing all of the excuses?

Good luck with the kitchen.

Patti just reminded me of one of her discussions with the Prime Contractor when he said the job would take 9 weeks. She asked him if he was talking real people days or Contractor Days. Oh you ask what is a Contractor Day. A normal day is 8 hours. So if the Contractor drops by for 30 minutes to check on the Project that is 1/16th of a day. 16 of these visits equal a Contractor Day. In that the Prime Contractor probably does not drop by every day or for 30 minutes he visit it might take 20 to 25 real people days to equal 1 Contractor Day.

So if 4 actual days = 1 contractor day (2 hrs/day actual work),
then his estimate of more 2 weeks, really means 8 more weeks.
... Sounds about right. Arrrgh.

We were living in the house during the remodel. The Contractor estimate of 9 weeks turned out to be about 30 weeks. I do have to admit that we threw them out at week 18 (twice the estimate) due to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. That added about 5 weeks.

Brewster Green (two weeks).
Haven't heard the excuses you have though we've heard plenty! Started our master bathroom remodel the middle of January. We did stop the work to go up to Cape Cod for two and a half weeks. Returned last week with only the cabinet doors and drawers to be installed, one final electrical hook up and test of heated floors, back splash and threshold installed followed by final cleaning and another coat of sealant on the marble. And then...the cabinet drawer fronts were the wrong style. They have to be re-built. Three weeks they say...yeah, they say. We were so close...SIGH!

I know they've been splitting their time on a bathroom, elsewhere.
At least I know its not yours. ;)

I found DW & project mgr in the LR talking about Game of Thrones.

I asked why he was here (w/no crew). "I wanted to let you know..."
-- The subs will be here Monday to do the walls + floor,
and the drawers & shelves have been finished at the shop"
(ignoring the fact that we're still missing cabinets & doors).

After he left, I told my DW that I'm not holding my breath.
