Can anyone tell me why the points chart at the kings land has split points needed for 1 and 2 bedrooms? I'm sure it's a simple explanation that I overlooked.

There are multiple phases. Phase 1 is all of the higher point units, these units are slightly larger and have better lanai furniture. Phase 2 is the smaller lower point units. Phase 3 is a mix of both.

Read the description you will see the sq footage is smaller. The key is HGVC resort room codes ending in a number are the phase 2 type lower points.

See the sticky, particularly this entry for more detailed info on KL.

Not having had to use the website since shortly after the "new" (not the newest, I see) I'm not exactly sure how it works.
Going to this sticky, I see "2BP2" is a "plus phase 2". But on the current website, it is saying "BP2 - no "2BP2."" Based on my past experience for the number of points for a week in December (Platinum period), it seems to me this is a 2 BR in Phase 2 and as a "plus" in the old system, would be 2nd or 3rd floor in buildings 21 or 22. IS THIS CORRECT?

Also, since I hate playing "Dungeons and Dragons" on websites (OK - I'm over 50), can you tell me if it's still true that the reservation can be cancelled or changed without penalty (if all done online). I have another possibility in mind with a Fiesta Americana "associated" resort [or at least it USED to be] and may want to change things, but afraid of losing a currently available 8 day stay at Kings Land if I can't.

Thanks for any help on any part of this post!

You are correct, the amount of points are a hint to which phase. You will probably get Bldg 21/22 but there is a small chance you will get Phase 3, it is a mix of high/low point units. I don’t recall seeing a breakdown of the numbers.

HGVC points are very flexible, you can change a reservation up to one day before as long as you have time left on the calendar and use the same or more points. If you elect to cancel and lose the booking fee you must do it before 30 days or some points will be lost.

I just changed a KL phase 2 booking for 2 weeks in October to a long weekend in Carlsbad, used a lot less points which were returned to my account. (2020 points since I always borrow ahead). No cost.
