Big time. I LIVE about 20 miles inland and there's been a lot of overcast; many days aren't getting out of the 60s, even here. So far it reminds me of 2010, when we had a cold San Francisco-like summer! I'm looking forward to several Palm Desert stays in July and August - I *think* there'll be plenty of sun there! ;)
I used to work downtown. I never saw the sun during the summer of 2010. It was awful.

Mike, you'll enjoy Devils Tower. Another tip: As you're driving along the I-90 freeway through eastern Wyoming, watch for Pronghorn in the fields alongside the freeway. They are plentiful, but kind of blend in to the grass. Sometimes they run in small groups across the fields. It may be "where the buffalo roam, and the deer and the antelope play," but those Pronghorn antelope are FAST little guys. :)

A personal comment, in my opinion: In the Rapid City area, if you're tempted to go see the Crazy Horse Monument, you may want to resist the urge. They will quickly take your money, but they can't show you much more than you can see from the road. It's a tourist money-grab, and has been in the same relative degree of excavation for about the last thirty years. Save your big money, and buy a postcard in town.

Dave

Dave, you were spot on!

We saw quite a few Pronghorns as we drove along the freeway both north and south of Buffalo, WY. We also really enjoyed seeing Devil’s Tower. That was a truly amazing sight.

Thanks for the tips.

Best regards.

Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it. Isn't Devil's Tower something? Last trip we hiked all the way around it, and watched as climbers were scaling the sides, waaaay up there. Pretty amazing to think it's naturally made. Mother Nature is a great artist.

I really enjoy that part of the country. Every time I drove through that area, it reminds me of what the Pioneers must have seen when they were coming across the plains in covered wagons.

So are you in Rapid City now?

Yes, we are in Rapid City again tonight and leave tomorrow. Headed to Cheyenne for an overnight stay and then on to Vail.

I agree with your comment about thinking of the pioneers and what it must have been like for them. Especially today as we drove the loop in the Badlands.

Best regards.

Mike
