Hi everyone, i have been looking at some European timeshares. It looks like there are some decent options for example there is an
annual 2 BEDROOM/FLOAT WEEK MARRIOTT'S CLUB SON ANTEM BALEARIC ISLANDS

Gold/Holiday Float Week 23
Floats Weeks 7-8, 21-23, 27-28, 41-44, 51-52 as available

The MFs are very reasonable for a 2 bdr, $1074 annual

We would probably use it every 3-4 years.

Would this (or other European resorts) be a good trader? I would like to hear the prospective of TUGgers that own European resorts as well as people who do not own such resorts but may be interested to exchange. We are only interested to exchange with Marriott, Vistana and Hyatt resorts.

Thanks a lot, Happy Mother's Day!

The issue with southern Spain is the travel season is short. For example, with hotel rooms, prices can be $400-$500 a night in the summer and the same room other times of the year can drop to $100 a night. If you buy southern Spain, I would recommend a high season week and be sure you can book summer to get maximum rental rates. Also look into the peak travel weeks for Europeans to get the most out of it as a rental. Week 23 is a bit early in the summer season. If you are buying Gold Season, perhaps week 27 or 28 in July would be better? Just a suggestion based on my travels to Europe.

Thank you TravelTime. I agree with you, 23 is early, 27-28 would work for us though. If i understand correctly the ad, it is either fixed or floating the respective weeks. It may be preferable a fixed top week thought, I see your point. Either way, are European timeshares good trades (provided they are the right season/quality)?

I do not know if the European resorts are good traders since I have only stayed in hotels and done cruises in Europe, and I have never owned a timeshare in Europe. I can only advise on travel season. I assume if you buy a prime southern Spain week, it would be a good trader. July and August tend to peak months for travelers to Europe. June might be okay but I don’t think that is a peak month for Europeans but mid-June through August is big for US travelers and the weather is nice for being at the beach. Since southern Spain is mainly beach towns, you need to pay attention to the weather and tourism patterns before buying a week there if you intend to rent or trade. August is the peak travel season for Spaniards because it is the hottest month of the year and many Spaniards go to the beaches in southern Spain. I remember being in Madrid many years ago in August and it was empty because all the locals were on vacation. I suspect July might be a good month to rent to tourists from all over the world esp Americans since summer tends to be the peak season for Americans visiting Europe, since kids are out of school from mid-June to mid-August in the US. I would recommend researching the tourism patterns to see what week would be best to purchase. As you know, you can also look at the II calendar to see what they say peak season is, although as we know, the II calendar is not completely accurate.
