I used to raise snakes. An 8 foot python is not that large, and if the woman was even a little bit aware, she could have gotten the snake off of her. My guess is she was out or already deceased before the snake got involved. They don’t generally constrict on necks - it’s usually ribcages, so the prey suffocates. And then it tries to eat the prey. No mention of that in the article.
