I went to the HHV website to see if the daily resort fees also increased for hotel guests.
According to one site, Hilton made $37 million via their hotel resort fee - https://travel-hawaii.com/hawaii-resort-fee-study.html

NOTE: Hilton Resort fee doesn't apply to HGVC home/club/open season reservations and honors point reservations but it applies to RCI Reservations.

Other than Wifi, you certainly don't get anything with the $40 daily resort fee that I would find value in...

I think the resort fee for hotels is the hotel equivalent of the airline bag fee. Just a profit center for the hotel.

Last summer we just rented a car for the day (3 times) and returned it.

We did that in Portland for one day. The in-town rental was about $17, with all the taxes and fees. Parking was like $45

No need to think that...just know that. Pretty much a fact :)

We don't check bags (and have status, so wouldn't pay anyway) but I actually think that the checked bag fees provide (minimally) more value in return than the resort fees

Cheers.

At least with bag fees you can have status or get a credit card that will eliminate the bag fees for you. Nothing you can do to eliminate the resort fees now at Hilton other than to stay elsewhere. Hilton should waive the resort fees at the LV timeshare if you rent from Hilton or exchange in through RCI and are an HGVC owner at any location. Or waive them if you're a Gold or Diamond HHonors member (or have a Hilton credit card).

Owners shouldn't have to pay for parking period. Disney and marriott do not charge owners for parking.

Can't speak to Marriott, but DVC owners do not pay for parking if staying on their points. Neither do we in this case with HGVC. Pretty sure that someone who happens to own DVC, but stays some other way than using their points would be charged (not 100% sure since we only stay on our points, but pretty sure of this).

Cheers.

Ah good to know. I stayed as someone guest a few years back at hgvc lagoon tower and was charged for parking. But when I book dvc for guests at dvc properties my guests arent charge. The same is true when I used to trade into Marriott ko olina. So HGVC owners are not charged parking but their guests are?

Not true, everyone is charged for parking at HHV. When I first went there in 2001 it was $10 a day.

Perhaps brp meant staying at DVC using HGVC points through the RCI portal?

No HGVC owners are charged parking at HHV if parking in the Hilton parking structure. No free parking even if you are an owner at Lagoon, Kalia, Grand Waikikian or Grand Islander.

I know nothing about the HGVC Oahu properties, so was making no comments about that.

As for DVC, I was suggesting that DVC members staying at DVC using DVC points are not charged. Guests of these members using our points are also not charged.
But, even as a DVC owner, if I stayed via some means other than my points, I believe that I would be charged.

Cheers.
