There have been so many great tips posted by Tuggers regarding ways to make use of an expiring deposit. I am planning well in advance of a deposit that will be expiring in April of 2021. Most likely, we'll use the deposit before then. However, to clarify with II, I asked them if we needed to travel by then, or book a reservation by then (for a date after April of 2021).
As I understood from reading the FAQ on the II site, we would need to travel by then, having booked no later than one week before the expiration date of our deposit. The reply from II gave me a nice surprise by way of additional information. "A live agent can offer a Courtesy Extension when you are ready to book out 89 days from the expiration date and search available and book your confirmation without fee. This is done for immediate confirmation only and could certainly be done in your case. This will certainly work for your travel plans for June, 2021."
I had mentioned in my question that we would probably be looking for a June reservation. I know many folks want to extend their deposit as far into the future as possible with the least amount of cost. This is just an additional way of making use of an expiring deposit, if they know that they only need a "short" extension. Thanks Interval!
