DW and I have decided on a quick trip to Kauai. Cheap flights and bonus time availability is making this possible. Only problem is that I need a place to stay on Friday night, 1-19-18. Any thoughts? Don't want to spend too much for one night but I know I may have to.

We were looking at other places to go but for a couple hundred more we can go to Kauai again so Kauai it is. DW didn't think she could make it with no vacation during the winter. We have our annual Kauai Trip all ready for May but with the way this winter's going, she didn't think she would make it. :)

Tip Top Motel is $88 a nite on Orbitz. Haven't stayed, but reviews are fair.
They make a mean pancake breakfast--I have eaten there.
Basic, but close.

Check the Kauai Inn near Kalapaki Beach (not far from the airport). John Wayne and the crew for Donovan’s Reef in the 60’s stayed there. We had a similar situation as yours a few years ago and stayed there. Nothing fancy, but clean and the staff was great. It also included a breakfast.

Best regards.

Mike

When we need one night, we stay at the Aqua, Kauai Beach Resort Hotel - it's on the same property as the Kauai Beach Villas, and it's really nice.

Their hotel rooms are studios with refrigerators and microwaves: www.kauaibeachresorthawaii.com

Thanks for the replies. I saw the Top Top. We have eaten there too but never stayed there. $88 is tempting.

I saw the Kauai Inn to but it was about $219 before tax but I suppose that's about the going rate.

Denise, I checked them out too. The rate was about $259 before taxes. Is that about right? I do expect to pay more last minute like this.

I'm spoiled with the Pono Kai's bonus time. $65 a night for a one bedroom and $75 for a two bedroom.

I just booked the flights. I checked Marriott Courtyard and they had no availability so that left the ones in Poipu and Lihue and they were over $400.

Thanks, let me know. I have a friend I work with staying at the Pono Kai with one of my weeks. He said I could stay with him but I don't like to impose.

Slip, we were in the spot as you, taking advantage of last minute deals that didn't quite match FF award flights. Do you have any hotel points? The Sheraton at Poipu has lots of availability @ 12K SPG points/nt.

We have our flights, can't believe they were $600 RT from Madison, WI. We got flights that cheap to Oahu before but that was about ten years ago. Car Is A Little More Expensive But I'll Keep Checking.

I've been just starting to save points through work but it seems like every time I go somewhere, we stay at a different place. :) seems like most places I checked are full of it will be around $300 for the one night. It being a Friday night doesn't help.

Jeff, sorry. No availability for just the one night. Probably because it's a Friday. Sorry, guy.

DRI: The Point at Poipu, 3 deeded weeks, 1 of which is in The Club.
We did stay at the Tip Top when we had an early checkout and a late night flight. All I can say is it was clean, had a bed and a bathroom. DW would never stay there again.

Hmm. Let's see: 1 hour drive to northshore (up to), check-in, go to dinner, sleep a few hours, resort access the next day. or
Land, eat dinner in Lihue, 5 min drive to hotel. check-in, sleep a few, go to resort next day (up to 1 hour).

Pretty expensive 8 hours of sleep if it's over $170 bucks.

Aloha,
Just looked at http://www.kauaishoreshotel.com
Looked like there is availability. Rate depends on things like senior or AARP but will be over $200 with fees and taxes. We'll be spending one night there again 8 days after you. Lava Lava Beach club is on-site.
Good luck
Jack

You might look at the Garden Island Inn. We have stayed there on several occasions in situations like yours when we have a gap in check out and check in days.

I keep telling my husband I don’t think I can get through this winter between the weather, work and no days off until Memorial Day. But I have to because I will not have enough PTO days for the rest of the years’ planned vacations and time off. I will have to drive to work in a blizzard if I have to! Ugh!

Kauai sounds perfect. My favorite island. We did rent a few days many years ago at the Banyan Harbor Timeshare Resort in Lihue. We needed the extra days after our first week there until we could check into our second week at Paniolo Green on the Big Island.

Thanks everyone. I'll check out the info in the new posts. My friend stopped my office at work today and was pretty excited that we would there and stay with them. I always feel like I'm imposing so I'll check these other options and see if I can find something $200 or less.

Something about how cold and long it's stayed cold really makes me ready to go.
