Humm...Has Nomadic Matt read Rick Steve’s Guide. Rick Steve’s motto is “There are 2 kinds of tourists. Those who wait in line and those who don’t.” And he covers these ‘skip the line’ tips in his France and Paris books. We went to the Louve on a Friday Evening in July—no crowds. (Except for the Mona Lisa). It was awesome.

Also ... so many guidebooks have revealed the "secret entrance" through the shopping mall that the line was twice as long there as the at main pyramid line when we visited last year. In fact, there were only about 75 people in line just before opening (I think it was April though).

Well, that's good to know. We were planning on using that entrance in October.

I'm not really a museum person and I'm definitely not a wait-in-line person, so I am dreading this part of our trip. We were working on our 14 day itinerary last week and my husband had 10 museum visits on the to-do list. I think that we have some negotiating to do :).

My favorite way to avoid soul-crushing crowds at the Louvre is to visit d'Orsay instead. Special shout-out to l'Orangerie, which is small but the Monet Water Lily collection is stunning.

Also on his list. :D I suspect that I'll be spending a lot of time in museums on this trip. I wish that I appreciated them the way that others do. I prefer outdoor activities.

Near the sea.
This past May we went on a riverboat trip with Vantage. The highlight was an evening tour of the Louvre for only our 100 passengers broken up into 15 person groups. A once in a lifetime experience.
