My brother-in-law and friends for the past few years have been going golfing in early January; lately to Las Vegas, cause I can get them cheap getaways in RCI.
This year they want to go someplace else, like Phoenix/Scottsdale in January, but want it cheap cheap as usual . I told BIL not very likely for Phoenix or So Cal.

However I see lots of availability in Hilton Head. Assuredly it's off-season, and online average weather temps are in the low-mid 60's. Assuming temps are tolerable for them, are there other factors they should be aware of about golfing in January? like gusty winds? steady rain?

TIA

Our weather in the Carolinas can fluctuate wildly. Can go from the 40’s to high 70’s over night. The closer to the beach you get the higher the winds but I would say no more than other times of the year. The advantages of going in Jan is that the rates are lower and less people will be there. The disadvantages are that some restaurants and businesses will be closed up for the season.

I’m an avid golfer and if it was up to me it would be Phoenix/Scottsdale. Tell them to bite the bullet or make sure to bring their cold weather gear they can buy with the money they save by go to HH.

We go to Hilton Head every January to bike and golf. Our usual tee times are 10 or 10:30. The lowest temp is about 45 degrees but slowly warms up and we start taking off layers. Many times the temps were in the low 60s to start. We have never had to cancel due to cold.
The courses are not too crowded and the restaurants that are open have great deals. Plenty of open restaurants. January is great for us.

Thanks much for your replies.
I'll suggest Hilton Head to BIL. It is cross country and higher airfare for them than Arizona.
But could be offset on lodging cost by using my remaining II accommodation certificate, which I'm not going to use anyway.
