Earlier this year my wife and I purchased a TS for HICV. I wasn't lucky enough to find this site before the rescind date so I'm stuck with it. I had buyer's remorse at first, but I've learned to accept what I can't change. Only now I'm realizing that I would like more points. My question is since I'm already a member of the HICV program, if I were to purchase on the resale market, would I be able to add points to my existing account? If so, could I buy a fixed week and convert it into points since I'm already in the system. Has anyone had luck doing anything similar, and what are some options to think about? I'm new to timeshares and TUG. I apologize if this has been a topic elsewhere on the site, but I haven't been able to locate it. Thanks!

Hi Barny,

Welcome...!

I can't speak to HICV (I am a Wyndham owner), but if the programs are similar, the likely answer is "no".

I had fixed, deeded weeks that I converted to Wyndham. In order to do so, I had to buy some Wyndham points directly from Wyndham.

At my home resort (Smugglers' Notch), not all owners have converted to Wyndham. There are still plenty of TS for sale at Smuggs, but I have to be careful because if I buy a fixed, deeded week, that's what I get...but I am sure the nice people at Wyndham would be willing to convert it to points for me...if I buy more points from them...

However, I have purchased several other TS contracts (mostly here on TUG) from other owners at other resorts that they had already converted to Wyndham and those get deposited into my points account, no problem...

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

You can buy from three resorts that automatically become points(Gatlinburg, South Beach and Lake Geneva). The rest of the resorts revert to weeks and HICV has a policy where you need to spend $5000 per 25,000 points to convert them. So if you buy a resale week that is worth 150,000 points they will require you to spend $30,000 to convert them.

That's what I understood too. Will the points automatically go into my account or do I have to go to a resort to set it up (where I'm sure they would charge a fee)? Thanks for the info!

There's a Lake Geneva TS for sale on the marketplace. It looks good, but asking for advice. Its listed as $1200 for 87000 pts with $540 MF. Buyer pays closing and transfer. Is this a good buy?

Yeah sounds pretty good. Not sure how much closing and transfer will be. Once the deed is transferred it should show up in your account. Resales wont count towards status level.
