We'll be checking into an HRC resort in a couple of weeks. Friends will be joining us but staying in separate units (checking in on different days, but at least a few days will be at the same time).

Is it necessary to purchase a guest certificate?

If we happened to be doing a separate activity while they arrived would they have any trouble checking in?

In the past when I've booked multiple rooms with the same check in date, I just put them all in my name and checked everyone in. Should I be doing that? Should I be purchasing a guest certificate?

It's not a big deal at all (I mean it's only $30), but just curious what the rules are and what everyone thinks.

Because they are occupying a separate unit from you, I’d do the guest certificate. If they were staying in the same unit, I’d say just call the resort and have them add your friends to the list.

I've only booked two units completely overlapping in terms of check in and check out dates. In my case, I book one unit under my name and the second under my wife's name.

I don't know what I would do in your case but might feel uncomfortable without a guest certificate, if someone else were to arrive at a unit before me, and I am not physically present.

Thanks! In this situation, I felt it was better to get the guest certificate. For future vacations, if I am staying at the same resort at the same time I have no issues keeping both reservations in my name or doing what @alameda94501 has suggested.
