Yes, if you book through the concierge it was $95 at the Kingsland courses, vs the $175 rack rate. Plenty of nice courses in the area, Hapuna, Mauna Kea etc. You can also find discounts online for WKL Village or Makalei for under $70.
Mauna Lani gave me an HGVC discount last May. I was staying at Kingsland. I believe it was $75. The interesting part is I didn't have to show them a room key or anything. So, I'm not sure how tied to HGVC it was or just a discount to get me to play there. By the way, I loved it.
If I go to the BI, I always buy the Golf Hawaii card (http://www.hawaiigolfdeals.com/ghc.html) as I'm playing a bunch of days and don't have a problem playing 36 holes/day. In addition to the discounted golf rate, you get free replay so why wouldn't you play more than 18 holes. Even if I don't do 36, 27 isn't overly taxing. I haven't found a better deal yet.

Has anyone played Makalei on the BI? We will be staying at Kona Coast Resort and that seems to be the closest and least expensive course? Just wondering what kind of shape the course is in and what the experience is like. Of course a big part of the experience is how well one plays on a given day
