We will be staying in Williamsburg for a week and then a few days in DC.
Flying in from Vegas. Any suggestions which airport to fly into? And out of?
Looking for most reasonable prices. Direct flights preferred. No special allegiance to any airline.
Also looking for input about car rentals. Thank you so much!

Does price trump convenience? We are admittedly price sensitive, so we're flying Southwest into Baltimore/Washington, and driving to Williamsburg. You can fly into (I think) Norfolk, but there are not a lot of flights, they are more expensive for when we wanted to go. If price is no object, fly into Norfolk, then out of Reagan Nat'l. On Southwest, you won't get a direct flight (well, maybe from Vegas?) but each person get to check 2 bags free, and that's gotta mean something. We got a Budget intermediate car for $345 of which $120 is taxes/fees! When are you going? We'll be there in late May.

Richmond International is probably the closest.

We did something similar a few years ago: Flew into Baltimore-Washington, stopped in Mount Vernon on the way to Williamsburg , then spent a week in DC (barely enuff time).

If ending the trip in DC, I would not want to drive back to Richmond or Norfolk. I'd prefer to fly in & out of Baltimore-Washington (BWI) or Washington-National (DCA), whichever has the most convenient schedule+price. DCA would be the most convenient, but drive from BWI is not bad, either.
