Will be at Fairway Villas for a week soon. We would like to drive down to Cape May for a day - have never been there. Would like some suggestions of things to do / see in Cape May. Also maybe a restaurant suggestion for dinner - not too expensive and preferably either taking reservations or not a long wait on a week night.

Thanks in advance.

(Please note - we do not need any suggestions about any other areas on the NJ shore other than Cape May).

Cape May will be a nice trip. As I recall it takes about 1/2 hr. Places to see are along the beach. Opposite the beach are numerous shops and places to eat. Also, when taking the road in, you will pass public parking areas before making the left to get down to the road along the beach. Taking a spot here and look for the cobblestone walking only street ( no cars) that have interesting shops and more eateries. There is a great seafood place along this strip ... sorry do not recall the name ... but there are not too many. It may be next door to an Irish pub if memory serves me right.

If you are an antiquer, there are a number of antique shops in the area which you can find by googling. The Jersey resort is a nice resort, the villas are nice and they have a spa onsite if interested.

Have fun.

Cape May Point Lighthouse

The 157-foot-high lighthouse is still an aid to navigation. Visitors who climb the 199 steps to the top of the lighthouse are rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the scenic Cape May peninsula. The first known lighthouse at Cape May was built in 1823. By 1847 a new lighthouse was erected on a high bluff, however, due to the encroaching sea and poor building design it was eventually dismantled. Built in 1859, the current lighthouse used the original bricks of the 1847 lighthouse.

Cape May Point State Park NJ

The 244 acre park is located off the southern end of the Garden State Parkway. Cross over Cape May Bridge onto Lafayette St, Cape May. At the intersection, bear right onto County Route 606, then left onto Lighthouse Avenue. From Route 9, take County Route 626, Seashore Road and cross the bridge. No entrance fee. The Park's beach is free and open to the public.

Cape May is the home of the United States Coast Guard Training Center.

We liked the Shore Drive and the Lucky Bones restaurants at Cape May. These two (2) restaurants were recommended by both current active duty and retired Coast Guard veterans.

The food was very good at both restaurants. Both restaurants menus were price moderately IMO.

The are a lot of shops and restaurants along the Washington Street Mall and it is a short walk to the beach/boardwalk. As others said Cape May Point State Park is a nice visit as well. One of the more popular restaurants in the area is the Lobster House. You can dine inside or out on the deck overlooking the marina Since you have children you can leave Cape May and than drive up to Wildwood or Ocean City and hit the boardwalk which will definitely entertain the family.

Not Cape May, but while at MFV, you should go to Shea's Cafe for breakfast! It is amazing and very close. Just be prepared to have a wait. Please post pics.

Not Cape May. But if you turn left out of the resort and drive a few miles you'll find a small lake (on the left) with yard shed sized buildings selling all kinds of stuff. Each shed is a different vendor. We spent an entire day there.

If you turn right at that light and take the road to the end you'll find a wonderful restaurant with excellent seafood.

The Cracked Egg is a no frills place, but the breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed the Athenian Garden for dinner. Both are close by the resort.
