I came across this deal on Travelzoo today. It is rather intriguing and, if we didn't already have some other stuff scheduled in May, we might have wanted to do it.

I have no personal knowledge about this offer nor do I gain anything from posting it--just throwing it out here in case anyone else is interested.

I'd love to hear that someone went for this offer... and then reported back to TUG after completion. :)

I would SO do this if I could!!!! I would stop at every cheesy roadside attraction along the way, too. What fun, with no long term commitment to an RV!

Being in an RV is very unappealing to me.

Many RV rental companies (like CruiseAmerica and ElMonte RV) use these deals to move vehicles to locations where needed. Like if they see they need more in Florida, and they have unused RVs in NY, they'll give a rental a phenomenal deal to do it.

Oh we would totally do that! We have each camped since before knowing each other (+42yrs) in everything from sleeping in a tent on the ground to a pop-up tent trailer to various travel trailers. Our dream for the first few years of our retirement was to buy a big 5th wheel toy hauler RV and put our Smart car in it for touring at each stop. We wanted to head west from our home (north of Toronto) early one spring, head out to BC then down to CA and meander around the south for the winter. But the ever increasing cost of gas made it cost prohibitive. So now we spend the winters in Belize and just camp near home during the summer, with some timeshare stays scattered in there as well.

My parents bought a (35ft Class A) motorhome before their retirement over 30 yrs ago and did some touring for the first few years but found the gas cost a killer. The got a couple newer ones over the years hoping for better fuel economy. They spent the last 10 years using their 3rd one just parked in an RV Resort in Florida for the winter. Their motorhomes averaged between 8 & 10 mpg for the drive down and back. Mom liked the idea of having her own bed & bathroom & knowing she and Dad were the only ones using them, unlike hotel/motel stays.

My husband lives in a 5 th wheel while working in NCAL. I have stayed there twice. The bathroom is a deal breaker for me. I visit about 3 times a year and we stay at the Marriott Courtyard or Residence Inn.

Although seeing America would be great. I will be doing it from his Titan and a nightly hotel!! I have heard a reasonable hotel isn't much more per night than an RV park space.

We booked it. First time for us, and something we wanted to try but were put off by RV rental rates that were twice as much as a reasonable hotel.

Warning: Chrome browser totally didn't work but Firefox did and their phone office says IE is fine. We're taking it to Vegas over 10 days (1850 miles); could have gone to LA (Bellflower) which is nearer home but they don't give extra time for the extra 300 miles.

I need my nice hot showers and a good flushing toilet within the comforts of my home, RV is not for me. No sucking out crap from the holding tank in the RV for me. The same applies to a yacht. Been there done that in a private yacht for about 10 years.

Sounds like a great adventure! Have you driven a motorhome or camped in an RV before? If not you might want to video the instructional walk-through. When I was telling DH about the offer he was wondering if the motorhomes would be equipped (linen, dishes & kitchen items) at all. There are some good RV Apps out there (AllStays, RVParky) to locate campgrounds and if all else fails Cracker Barrels and many Walmarts allow RVers to park/sleep (not camp) in their parking lot overnight, as do many Casinos.
Have a great trip and let us know how it went.

I couldn't get the deal it to come up. In 1971 we traveled ten thousand miles for two months in a Volkswagen bus from Chicago up the al can highway where we turned around short of the Yukon and did banff and jasper then on to Seattle down the coast including mt rainier, mt hood, Columbia river gorge, crater lake, then down to los angelous, Santa Barbara, over to vegas, then over to Tucson and then home. Did as many national parks as we could. We had no amenities, the seat went down into a bed, that was it. Camped with snow around us, had to pump water, etc

I just now tried the link in my first post and it went through to the website. Hope you can connect if you're interested in the deal.

Took 2 trips in our 1977 GMC mini in 1981 and 1986 from east coast to west coast. Visited lots of national parks including Yellowstone and Yosemite, Vegas, Tahoe, corn palace, Wall Drug, Vancouver Worlds Fair, Air Force Academy, Lake Louise, and in '81 dropped daughters off in Florida at grandparents before home to Maryland. Motorhome now stays in Wisconsin campsite and it's our summer home.

This deal is still available for certain dates to certain destinations, and now they've included a $350 gas credit!

I'm beginning to worry, as we approach the "too good to be true" point. I did clarify that the rental comes with "basic" kitchen cutlery and pans, two linen kits, and nothing else ... specifically, no cleaning supplies or even rubber gloves to handle the sewer hose with. Time to do some research and make a list. Luckily, we're staying next to a super Walmart the night before.

I notice they also have some offerings in Australia and New Zealand, too!

You'd need the 'high flotation' tires for that trip!

Back when we had our 5th wheel, we'd find folks in those rental Class C's. They don't have hardly anything to ease the RV experience. Like those gloves- or the sewer hose itself. Or blocks to drive up on to level the unit. Or Wheel chocks. Or kitchen necessities- salt-pepper- paper towels, dish cloth, detergent, drying rack. Or a broom and/or swiffer. And on and on. The list can get lengthy. Hey, but WTF- it's an adventure!

Great Alaskan Adventures does this sorta of gig . . . but charge you a discounted rental fee for the RV for the 8-10 days. We've considered it, but to take our time and pay for the unit PLUS fuel . . . made little sense to us.

The Las Vegas for a $1/day is much more appealing, but early May is not good for me/us this year!

Having RV'ed in Alaska for two weeks on three separate occasions, using a friend's 29' "beast" . . . I can assure you it is much easier than you may think. And sure, there are some creature comforts you may want/need that don't come with the RV, but it's easy enough (and cheap enough) to hit a store along your travels. "Poo Gloves" will be a necessity for anyone RVing and cheap Rubbermaid kitchen gloves will work just fine.

Have to admit that this is tempting... does anyone know if a "beginner" RVer could sign up for this? I wouldn't have a clue how to manage one of these.
