Sad video of the derelict buildings. I remember going to the restaurant for tropical drinks and watching the torch lighting ceremony at sunset.

I wonder if HGVC would entertain buying the property and building a timeshare. After the Maui development is complete, Kauai will be only major island in Hawaii where HGVC does not have a presents.

For better or worse Coco Palms will need a developer who has deep pockets and serious political connections. Part of it is state land, part of it is on flood plain that can’t be developed (only grandfathered), and part of it is on land that is of significance to Native Hawaiians. WAAAY out of HGVC’s league.

Last Friday at 5pm after two Mai Tias and tacos at Lava Lava, we saw Larry Rivera perform at Coconut Marketplace. He performed for Elvis at Coco Palms and became friends with him. He is on utube. Here he is performing Sunday's at Coco Palms.

I dont think it ever gets going as a resort. The death blow will be when they find a way to void the lease on the 14 acres of leased state land reducing the scale of the project enough to make it non-viable given proximity to the flood plain.

Given the attitude toward development on Kauai - other than for affordable housing - I cant see it.

It seems like too big of an investment is required to build a resort on that busy street location.

There's a nice size empty lot south of the Marriott Courtyard where a timeshare developer has defaulted on his loan.
