We have never been to Maui and I got 2 different ongoing search matches in RCI today for Maui - one at the Kuleana Club and the other for Maui Lea at Maui Hill. Any thoughts on either of these? Thanks in advance for any and all info!

Kuleana Club has very small units but stellar views. Every unit has oceanfront view with a lanai to enjoy it. Maui Lea is a great resort, totally different area, but we really liked it. Exchanges are pretty great to Maui, anytime you can get them.

I've stayed at both, and we own at Maui Lea.

The one plus for Kuleana is that it it right on the water. It's not a usable beach, but if you're lucky you might get a unit where you can hear the waves. The units are small, and dark.

Since we own at Maui Lea we are prejudiced. We LOVE it there. In fact we'll be heading there in a few days for a two week stay. The units, even the one bedrooms are roomy, with a wonderful lanai.

The other thing to consider is that they are on totally different parts of the island. Kuleana is closer to Kaanapali and Lahaina. Maui Lea is in Kihei.

For the benefit of the OP, since you've never been to Maui before, Ka'anapali is a planned resort area just north and west of the former whaling village of Lahaina. It's beautiful there--with tons of nice restaurants and shopping nearby. One downside of Ka'anapali is that it's one of the windiest places on the island.

Kihei is a lot less tourist-y and therefore also less upscale than Ka'anapali. It's a nice town with more of a working class feel, and a lot of locals live there. It has nice beaches, but it lacks the "island resort" feel of Ka'anapali.

Just to tag on, and remember we own in Kihei so obviously we're prejudiced.

We love to go up and visit Lahaina and Kaanapali, but we find it much more crowded and worse traffic. Also Lahaina itself can get quite warm and humid.

Kihei is more of the "beachy town" feel. But, if you like resorts, Wailea is just down the road and boasts several of the best, and most extravagant resorts on the island. Also there is no shortage of golf courses down there either.
