Canadians, while in the U.S. have you received US$ from a bank machine using your debt card accessing your U.S.$ account.

The CIBC tells me this can be done, however, I would have to assign my US$ account to the 'chequing' button on the machine. Because I can't get to the U.S. to try this before leaving on my trip, I'd like to know if this works.....basically, if you can receive US cash from your US account that way. Also, I don't know why it has to be hinged to the chequing button and not a savings button instead, thereby leaving my Cdn$ designation for other access with an exchange conversion.

This other way would give me direct access to my Cdn. U.S.$ account without any conversion.

I have been told by HSBC and TD Canada Trust that you can only access your Canadian money from ATMs while out of the country.

I have a credit union debit card. My account has a US chequing account attached to it. I've been told I can't access my US account at US debit machines.
