Best way to get from Puerto Plata to Punta or stay in Puerto Plata ?

Allegro, Melia, VI Resorts
Currently we have 8 nights at the lifestyle resort in Puerto Plata and 5 nights at the iberostar Playa Dorada. We looked into going to another island for the last 5 nights but airfare is too much.
Would you keep this itinerary or would you suggest going to Punta Cana or The Carribean side?

If you would move any idea of the best way to get there and what company to use for transfers?
