Best Timeshare for visiting Rome and Ostia Antica

Is it practical to stay in a timeshare exchange while visiting Rome and Ostia Antica? I found two on II, but they both appear to be rentals only. We're arriving in Venice by cruise ship on a Wednesday. I'd like to spend a couple of days there and then take the train to Rome. The last time we were in Italy, we spent a week at Il Poggio in Tuscany. We enjoyed it, but would rather do something else this time. What do you recommend for seeing Rome or elsewhere?
