Don't most people already do this? I can't imagine anything that would be more annoying than reading my mail with those unsightly paper folds. Next you'll be telling me that other people don't iron their socks and underwear. I just don't know whether civilized society can survive if people aren't particular anymore. Alas, alas!!

I thought ironing mail was mostly the province of suspicious spouses - using lots of steam. :)

Chid abuse of the worst kind

I think this is appalling. There are questions to be asked of this boy's parents!
What was a 17 year old, and a male at that, doing to know how to use an iron??
There are 2 serious issues to be addressed here:-

1. Why was the mother not doing the ironing.
2. What sort of traumatic effect will it have on him when he is ridiculed by his classmates for doing womans work?

Please note I am already wearing a flak jacket and kevlar helmet :D

What!!

People use irons for things other than crafts (like "crayon stained glass hangings), or cooking a grilled cheese sandwich on (if you aren't travelling in your car)?

What's the world coming to? :D

Hmm, I must be using the wrong irons. I've tried a 9-iron and a 3-iron, heck, even tried my driver but all I end up with is a ratty looking envelop. Hopefully those nice credit card people will send more... :D

Maybe the 17 year old read this article....?

Why do British butlers actually iron newspapers?

News News blog

Paper can also be ironed. British butlers, for example, do this regularly with the daily newspapers.
These newspapers are ready for ironing.

However, ironing the newspapers does not only serve to smooth the paper. The heat of the iron helps to fix the ink on the paper and the reader of the newspaper does not get his hands dirty.
If you also want to iron newspapers and use the iron but also for your white laundry, but you should always put a layer of kitchen paper when ironing the newspaper. Then you will not transfer the ink to the iron and thus not to the laundry

I wish I had thought of this back in the day...when my paper arrived in the driveway damp from the rain (despite being in a plastic bag), I used to put it in the oven at 200 degrees for a few minutes. Dry but wrinkly.
