Anyone exchanged via II into a 2 bdrm. this summer at Ko'Olina or on Maui?

I just submitted my first exchange request since being an II member for Ko Olina & Maui Ocean Club for the week of April 1, 2018. What are my chances of actually getting a trade? I'm trading a 2018 Week 33 Ocean Side Unit at Ocean Watch.

Thanks!

We were trying to get in Maui with a two bedroom Aruba surf for the summer and no luck. Had to cancel the request because it was getting too close to go and airfares were becoming astronomical

While not a location with lockoff's, this morning I matched to Waiohai Beach Club Island View mid Summer week with a Willow Ridge 2BR Deposit. Now I can cancel a points reservation and kick that can down the road which is a good thing for me in this situation. So between 3 weeks and over 2 years, I've deposited 2 legends edge 2 BR, 2 WR 2BR and 2 WR 1BR/studio combo's. With those I've gotten a 4th of July Heritage, a studio & 1 BR at both Maui and Ko Olina and a 2 BR at Waiohai Beach Club leaving me just the two 2 BR deposits for 2018. Granted these were top weeks at WR but not the highest week.
What wonderful exchanges! Glad your requests worked out for you! I'm going to think positively, and use my 2 BR MGC to try for Ko'Olina and Maui for summer of 2019. Ko'Olina will probably match first since there are almost twice as many units on Oahu than there are on Maui, but you never know...

You might have a better chance, if you'll accept a one BR unit. Spring Break is a very popular week on the islands, but Ko'Olina will probably match first. Good luck!

Good to see the success that you are having through II. Enjoy your vacation. We loved Waiohai!

We placed an OGS (request first) for a 2 bedroom Maui Ocean Club last July. We matched 11+ months out for for August 2017. We are packing!!!

Thank you, I always sweat it a little but I do enjoy the thrill of the chase. I'd suspect Ko Olina is far more likely to match and it goes beyond the number of villas, Maui simply has a higher demand. Now if I can get 1 more 2 BR at Ko Olina and another 2 BR at Waiohai, I can cancel the points reservations and use those for Aruba in 2019 and I'll have no trading units left other than those that come kith the 2019 reservations.

I think it largely depends on what you'll accept in terms of resort codes and villa size. I'm sure you know the ocean side designation means nothing, II doesn't track or give credit for view. For a studio I'd say good to very good, for a 1 BR less and for a 2 BR much less. Since 1 April is Easter and you've missed a ton of potential deposits, I'd start to get pessimistic about this search pretty quickly for Maui, a little less so for Ko Olina. The other variable is how long can you hold out.

wegottago, were there other variables at play like starting the search later, a lower demand week or just looking for the new towers?

I have exchange requests in for Maui, Ko Olina and Kauai (Waiohai). I had a 2 BR, 1 BR and studio deposit for 2017 and for 2018. ALL of them were attached to requests for the 3 islands mentioned. I have not yet matched for any 2 BR but have matched to a studio and 1 BR for Maui and a studio and 1 BR for Ko Olina. I have removed Maui from the requests for the 2 BR going forward because I don't need more volume there. I only have 2 BR requests remaining, we'll see what happens.
I have subsequently matched all of my 2 BR searches. Two to Waiohai and one to Ko Olina. So I've exhausted my current Marriott searches and gotten basically everything I need for our trip to HI that I expected from an exchange standpoint. I'll cancel all Ko Olina reservations except for a studio and I haven't decided whether to keep one of the 2 Waiohai weeks or squeeze into the 2 exchange units. Now I'll use those freed up points to reserve 1.5 weeks in Aruba for early 2019.

I'm glad that all of your exchanges worked out as early as they did! It's always the anxiety of "the chase" that is the challenge! Your success continues to give me hope for a 2 BR at Ko'Olina for 2019. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your travels! CJ

I've found that knowledge, advanced planning, a backup plan, flexibility and realistic expectations are paramount to a successful exchange plan. If I can utilize all of those facets I will likely never be disappointed. When planning a multi week trip, multiple villas to the same resort or have some specific event one is trying to match, you lose much of the flexibility. One issue with II is you can't generally control the start day of the week Fri-Sun. I have some of these that overlap a day but in the big picture it's not going to have any real effect on this trip. I will likely lose a night for two villas (one each 2nd & 3rd week) but I will have early morning access the next day for both which will be a big advantage. I much admit I do enjoy the chase somewhat and I fare far better than at the casinos.

That's not really true. I've done it a couple of times. You need to call the Marriott desk at II and tell them you will only accept a check-in on [fill in your day of the week here]. Of course, it decreases your chances of getting an exchange.

I agree, for the many MVC resorts we stay at elsewhere than Hawaii anyway.
We have regularly exchanged 4 to 6 weeks every year with Interval, always requesting specific check in days.
We do so well in advance, but in some 15 years I can only recall one exchange where we had to take a different check in day leaving us with one overlapping night and coincidentally we received 2 MR Elite nights credit for that overlapping night.
