Any point in buying TS if I can only book 2-3 months in advance ?

Continuing to research and would like to buy HGVC resale at some point.

I love to visit Hawaii and also Vegas & SoCal. I typically go to Hawaii every-other year, so thinking to possibly buy something in Vegas, that would allow me to occasionally use something in Hawaii.

Looks like I could purchase HGVC TS in Vegas, that would give me 5000+ points for a reasonable cost, plus about $900 annual maintenance.

My question is, could I make use of this if I don't book well in advance... ?

What if I can only ever book 2-3 months in advance, but I am VERY flexible in terms of dates... ?

Let's say I bought into Vegas Elara and had 7,200 points - If I was looking today, to book a week at Hilton Hawaiian Village in Jan, Feb or March 2018, are there ANY weeks still available at this point, or is everything long gone ?

Many Thanks
Mike

I’m not an HGVC owner but, I think Vegas is easy to get into even me through RCI. I would think Hawaii would be a lot harder with that short of a window

I own HGVC but only use NYC. However I went on line and looked. Tons of availability in Vegas. Oahu also seems to have tons of availability. I see people talking about the difficulty of getting Hawaii and needing to book ASAP. Must be the case for some times of the year and some resorts/unit types.

The units available in Oahu are the higher point towers Waikikian, Islander and Hokulani. 7200 points for a one bedroom week. The Lagoon and Kalia towers dont have any full weeks left of the lower point 4800 1 bedroom.

OP, the answer to your question would be no, 5000 points in Vegas wont get you a 2-3 month advance booking week in Oahu, you will need the Elara 7200 point unit.

Regarding Hawaii, you should bear in mind that--even though Lagoon and Kalia Towers are older--they offer larger rooms, much better beach views, and require only about half the points as compared to the new Grand Islander. Availability inside of 90 days, though, will be very hit and miss.

Our vacation club (elite1500) lined us up with Kohea Kai on Maui last winter. I know we only gave about a 2 month lead time. Maybe this approach would be a better fit for you?

If you book last minute and you're VERY flexible as you say then I think it's definitely do-able. What I think might work well for you is to just get the cheapest thing possible and use RCI to book last call vacations for the destinations you like. You can easily get last call options for all those locations off-season and year-round for Vegas. But you might just be better renting if that's your situation.
