I have stayed in a few Air BnB's without incident or concern . . . but I did have one horrendous experience out near Olympia National Park. The host made it right by a full refund, which when I complained to Air BnB.

I do know of someone who has a place in NC who has cameras throughout their vacation home that they have offered up on both Air BnB and VRBO. Totally creepy . . . they say it's for security purposes . . . but I don't care. It's wrong!

@ DazedandConfused, that is full circle ironic that the website that specializes in selling a somewhat creepy array of hidden cameras also sells a detection device for hidden cameras.

I did notice that and the irony is hard to ignore....Create a problem and then sell a solution - welcome to capitalism

In reality, we are on camera everywhere we go, we just do not realize it.

I can see the other side of too though and not the creepy perverted side. You have someone in your home and you want to make sure they aren't doing drugs, smoking or having parties or bringing their dogs, stealing or violating the agreement in other ways. The reason people have cameras on when they have cleaning services, nannies, or repairs is to make sure they aren't doing something really wrong not just being weird and voyeuristic.

Even cameras inside a residence are not illegal as long as the cameras are in common areas (not bathrooms or bedrooms) and there is notice given of the cameras.
And yes, people should know by now that when you're in public, especially in a developed area, you're gonna be on camera.

This could be accomplished easily with Ring cameras outside the entry doors. You don't need cameras inside the home.

P.S. entry door cameras also work well to check on whether your teens are having a party when you are not home.

Cameras outside won't help prove who stole something.. Sure, you can charge the renter for damages but that's about it.

If it was large like a TV you would see them walking out the door with the entry cam. We own a rental and don't keep anything valuable other than a TV there.

After renting for 3 years we've never had an issue. Our housekeepers do an inventory check after every rental. Renters have been surprisingly respectful of our belongings.

CalGal that is hopefully, and probably the norm or fewer people would be in the vacation rental business.

FWIW...instead of theft, we have had some minor damage, however AirBnB has rental insurance that the renter purchases so we file a claim so do not have to chase down the renter.
