We just returned from a 12 day cruise that started in Rome and ended in Venice on the small Pacific Princess ship with 650 passengers. Although it was not billed as adults only, it turned out to be that way. I saw only one child on the ship and I rarely saw her. There were no children’s activities or childcare facilities.

Another cruise we took three years ago on a Viking ocean cruise around the Baltic Sea was adults only with no children’s activities or facilities.

We loved both cruises and the relaxing atmosphere and itineraries. We’ve also done a few cruises with our adult kids and grandkids, and while those were fun and we enjoyed being with our family, I must say that I found the adults only settings more enjoyable.

Now if the OP is thinking of the term “adults only” in a more risqué way other than just the absence of children, I don’t have any experience with such a cruise!:)

I agree with Karen that there is 'ADULTS only' and there is 'adults ONLY'. We find that most of the Celebrity cruises we take occur during school season and hence there are few if any children aboard. Not to be confused with 'swingers' or LGTBQ or 'clothing optional' being the primary impetus of the cruise. There are all kinds of 'affinity' cruises, rock 'n' roll, pinochle players, senior cruisers, and on and on. Check with your agent (or the Cruise Critic Roll Call) to be sure you fit in with the target passenger demographic.

We regularly take Viking ocean and river cruises. No passenger under the age of 18 is allowed. We love them.

And longer cruises during school terms usually have few children, and the ones that there are are usually homeschooled pre-teens (teens have too much going on to be away for long periods). We just did 20 days transPacific on Golden Princess and only saw about 6 such kids, and no preschoolers, although there might have been some.

The experience I am looking for is the over 18  For us nothing risque!! My husband is a teacher - and I figured he could use a break from kids. We've did a cruise in the Baltics with Holland America, and that was 95% adults. I am looking for over his winter break, or summer break - so the Viking Cruises are appealing!

DRI: The Point at Poipu, 3 deeded weeks, 1 of which is in The Club.
We've taken 8 different cruises. As mentioned, Viking doesn't allow children. Princess allows children, but we saw few on the cruises we took, which we all during the school year. The Norwegian cruise had cartoon characters in costume and had quit a few kids.

Even though Norwegian had kids, it was the only ship I've been on that had an "adults only" sun deck. I was up there with another guy, when a woman around 50 showed up and warned us that the sun deck was a clothing optional deck, and whether we stayed or not, she was about to take advantage of the sun. We both quickly disappeared.

Viking is all over 18. Holland America caters to 'seniors' but there are a few grandkids aboard, and a fair number of scooters. Celebrity- more teens and less scooters, RCCL markets to young working couples, but if ziplines and surf pools and bungie jumping are not your thing, look at Celebrity (same company). Carnival, well, I have a hunch Spring Break is not your thing. Costa, Italian family line- lots of little kids in strollers. MSC- Greman, French, Italian. Smoke eeverywhere.

River Cruises. AFAIAC no need to look beyond AMAWaterways. They have gone far and away above the expected for us. (Long story but they saved my life!)

The best all adult cruises all when kids are in school and the cruises are more than ten (10) nights. Also, the average school age child cannot miss that many consecutive days from school. IMO.

We enjoy cruising with Celebrity Cruise Line because 95% of their passengers are adults.
