Weather was nice, not too sunny and not too hot!

The Drive

Left BWI via Rt 100, I-70 West pass Frederick, Md to Rt 340

Continued onto Route 340 pass Harpers Ferry to Charles
Town, where we stopped for a break @ Hollywood Casino

Charles Town is a city in Jefferson County, West Virginia

South on Rt 340 to Route 7 to Interstate I-81 S/B
Stopped at a really nice rest area near New Market
Exit 232 and took a few photos of the picnic area.

Continued south on I-81 to Harrisonburg Exit 247

East on Route 33, stopped for Gas at Shell Station
Regular Gas $2.30 a gallon. (with Rewards Card)

Passed by some of the local businesses, Valley Mall,
Krogers, Martins, MedExp, and Golden Corral Buffet

Note: The Golden Corral Restaurant recently closed!
The building sits empty on the hill overlooking the area.

Eastbound on Spotswood Hwy

Passed a brand new Exxon Station and the sign
for the new Rockingham Park at the Crossroads

Arrived about 4 PM
Massanutten Resort
App. 200 miles 5 hrs

Put up $100 deposit hold - Released Early
$55.65 Resort Fee - Charged at check in

Was unable to get a Regal Vistas house in the area we like best, but
did get a house close to the front entrance with lots of trees behind it.
Loved the privacy, but really missed the beautiful view we had last time.

* Did you know that Interstate 81 is over 800 miles of history, natural wonders, and quirky tourist attractions. Beginning just northeast of Knoxville, Tennessee, I-81 travels through six states, and ends at the border with Canada.

Posted a few photos online

Our Massanutten Fall Vacation

Sept 29 to Oct 6, 2019

#RegalVistasatMassanutten

2020 Chandler Drive

Two Bedroom Semi-detached
House with a One Car Garage.

We were impressed with the new look of the master and guest bedrooms.
No more heavy flowered bedspreads. Our Unit had brand new pillows, sheets,
towels, and two soft white comforters!

This Unit featured a 50 or 55 inch LG smart television
in the living room with Web0S, and internet ready.

Note: The Kitchen Cabinets over the counter
extend too close to the edge & block your view
of the living room and television.

If not careful, you can hit your head.
Hope the new units have a different design!

There are Stainless Appliances in the Kitchen
Large Refrigerator with french doors
"but the ice maker would not crush ice"

Smooth top stove, oven, microwave,
Dishwasher, toaster and coffee pot.

Housekeeping missed one counter top.
Coffee pot was dirty and there was wet
coffee under the pot on the counter.

There is a Stackable Washer and Dryer.

Off the living room there is a Deck/Patio
with a table and chairs and Bar-B-Q grill.

The patio table is showing its age
and it really needs to be replaced.

Npte: Air conditioner/furnace room is normally locked
When the maintenance man came to put in a new air filter,
for us, and check the furnace in the interior room floor
for the smell of gas - The utility room floor was dirty.
He never took the time to even sweep up the dirt.. Not his job..

Landscaping around the houses in Regal Vistas @ Massanutten
is beautiful with lots of flowers, bushes, shrubs and trees.

The weather was prefect in Virginia during the first week of October, 2019
with temps near 90 degrees most of the week (only had one cool night).

Sad to hear that Golden Corral has closed. That was a favorite stop for us. Maybe one of these days we'll make the trek south again and enjoy Virginia!

Disappointed that Golden Coral closed too, although I wouldn't describe it as on a hill overlooking the area.

First week of Oct 2019
Fall Vacation in Virginia

We confirmed a 2 bedroom timeshare at Regal Vistas @ Massanutten Resort in Virginia. (RCI C152) just 12 days before check-in using 9 tpus.

We were hoping the leaves would be changing but the Fall foliage colors in Virginia are delayed because of above average temperatures and the drought in September. One evening while watching the local news, the weather man made a big thing about a little sprinkle that day.

Bill spent time taking photos of the houses, flowers & trees along Chandler Drive and talking to the neighbors while out for daily walks. (We were disappointed that we didn`t see any deer this trip).

We didn`t eat out much this trip, but did have lunch at the China Wok in Valley Mall (it was very disappointing) We also had a sub from Subway near the Dollar General on Route 33 (Yummy)

On Wed. we drove south to The Shenandoah Heritage Market. We both enjoy browsing the shops. My favorite shops are Grandma`s Pantry, The Country Cannery (Blueberry Jam) & Timeless Toys.

Thursday, while I was working on posting photos to my Instagram account.

Bill was out in the garage
He loves having a garage!

He put two coats of Meguiar's Gold Class Carnauba Plus Premium Liquid Wax on our car. (an excellent wax for cars with Clear Coat) Replaced the belt in the engine with a new Motor Craft Serpentine Belt and cleaned the air conditioner clutch plate (it sometimes sticks when its dirty, especially when its extremely hot 90+ & humid)

Friday morning, we went to our favorite Auto Service Dept, Myers Ford on Rt. 33 Spotswood Hwy. near Elkton and had the oil changed & a new Motorcraft oil filter put in our Mustang. Great Service!

The weather changed up Friday and Saturday and it started to feel more like fall.
We went for a drive in and around Harrisonburg on Sat. Before heading home on Sunday.

We noticed the Timeshare business on the corner of Model and Rt. 33 is no longer there and the building is up for lease. Did they move, Are they still in business, Anyone know what happened?

The Golden Coral was probably put out of business by the Wood Grill Buffet, it is not to far away! You may like it even better than GC.
https://www.woodgrillbuffetva.com/locations/
Go into Harrisonburg, there is a restaurant/pub named Finnigans Cove, it is a little smoky, because some patrons smoke, great food, seafood and such..have specials during the week, dozen fresh oysters raw or steamed Weds after 4 PM $10 , www.finniganscove.com.. free parking right opposite the pub...not fancy but has atmosphere.. if you do not like smoke they have back dining area Smoke Free...go enjoy !! Check website for specials and Happy Hour!!

I did. Not sure if it was worth it.
Did you come to any conclusion about if the points enrollment will transfer upon resale? I am pretty sure it will, but curious if you found any real evidence (beyond what the reps told you) that it won’t.

I am counting that they will although I won't know for sure until I actually make the transfer.

During our stay Regal Vistas @ Massanutten Resort
We kept smelling a gas odor in the house & garage.

We asked about the fireplace in the living room,
and bedroom and was told they ran on electric.

Later in the week, the on-demand water heater took
longer than usual to put out hot water, so we called
the maintenance dept. The water heater was working
ok but we learned it operates on (propane) gas.
(Not sure about the furnace). Anyone know if Regal
Vista timeshares have Carbon Monoxide Detectors?
We don`t remember seeing one.

What about The Summit and Woodstone
Any CO Detectors in the (condo) units?

I have found that it takes a long time for the water to heat up in all of the Massanutten units that I have stayed in.

My biggest complaint about Massanutten is as much as I go and do there and spend money on things, I wish I had a gold card. But I have a hard time imagining doing what it takes to get one (developer purchase) would ever save me money. I have thought about trying to find a gold card owner friend that is slowing down or wants a partner on their property (deed), but that might not be a good idea either.

Does the gold card make activities free? Or does it just give a discount?

usually just a 10-20% discount. It does let you use facilities when not staying onsite but that doesn't help unless you live close by.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't seem like it could be worthwhile unless you live nearby...and if you golf or have some activity you want to do there almost every day.

I saw the resort advertising the service on their website. It might be handy in some circumstances, but “a wide selection of groceries” seems like quite an exaggeration base on what I have seen in their market.

https://www.massresort.com/shop/store2door/

Probably not something I will use.
