The Hale Koa Parking garage has always been a cost effective alternative to the parking at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. On October 1, the Parking Payment center at the Hale Koa garage posted new parking rates increasing the monthly rate for the general public by $5 to $180. Since the Hilton garage fee is $45 daily, if you are staying more than 4 days it is still cost effective to buy the monthly pass for the Hale Koa garage. We are here for 10 days so it was no brainer for us. When I created this thread, the Hale Koa website was still using the old rate so I took a picture of the actual posting at the Parking Payment Center.

Its even more cost effective if you just skip renting a car long term and take Uber, then do a daily rental if you feel like driving somewhere. All the tours will pick you up at the HHV transit center.

Plus $10 for the processing fee.

You can also park at the overflow by the trump hotel.

Yes, but Honolulu is different than the rest of Hawaii. I always say that if you have the need to have a car to make your vacation complete then DON'T, stay in Honolulu. There are so many other beautiful islands as well as the rest of Oahu that you can stay in with free parking and much less traffic so why stay in Honolulu. We stay for months in Honolulu WITHOUT A CAR. If we rented a car for our length of stay we couldn't afford our stays even though we have no cost of housing since we stay in Hilton timeshares. You can walk to many things that you want to see in Waikiki and Ala Moana Shopping Area, and the BUS system is very inexpensive and good to get you to other places in Honolulu or even around the island if you want. If you are a Senior the BUS is $1 showing a medicare card. Since we stay so long we get the monthly or annual bus pass which is $6/month or $35/year which is almost free transportation. So for us parking is free, gas is free, and there is no traffic!!

When we stayed in Waikiki last January we walked or took the Bus. The Bus was $2 for all day Pass for Seniors and retired military.

Agreed. We've never stayed right in Honolulu, being outside of the immediate area the few times we've been in Oahu. We had a car, but I would not want a car if in Honolulu. Also, as mentioned, the other islands generally need a car (unless right in Kona or Hilo, perhaps), but parking is generally free (Big Island HGVC, for example).

Cheers.

We always stay in Waikiki when on Oahu. I believe that Disney and Marriott are the only timeshare companies that are not in Waikiki on Oahu and we don't own either one. I don't know of any timeshare companies right in downtown Kona or Hilo and the bus system is clearly not as good as the one in Honolulu. Parking is free except for the new Ocean Tower in the Hilton Waikoloa Beach Resort.

We have stayed in Waikiki about 30 times in the last 20 years and always have a car. Our timeshare at Waikiki Banyan has free parking so we do not have that expense or we might only rent a car a few days.Generally rates are about $175 a week(about the parking cost) About half the days we golf at some golf course on the island and other days travel to other places.there’s maybe one or two days a week where we just stay in Waikiki. We have learned the hours not to try traveling on the interstate. There is a bad traffic problem on all Hawaiian Islands at the wrong time of day.we walk in Waikiki if under a mile or so each way. We have tried the bus but are not patient enough.

I meant staying in general, not necessarily a TS. A Kona- or Hilo-based stay may well not need a car, just like Waikiki (although I can well believe that the bus service is better in the much more densely-populated Honolulu.ANd, yeah, free parking is a good thing :)

Cheers.
